OMG I want these so bad. Finally a collaboration of good planar magnetics :D

EniGmA1987The Massdrop x Fostex T-X0 Planar Magnetic Headphones aren't good? I'd hate for you to be right. I bought a pair but they don't ship until October.
liteon163I cancelled mine and bought the MKIIIs off of Amazon for about 150USD.

Ares78The high frequencies will come alive with a tube hybrid as did mine over solid state.
TonyRizoI've had them for about 2 weeks now, have yet to get an amp (I need to save up a bit more), and they are really nice even running off of my motherboard.

Ares78Yes, an amp is a must for the mk3 to sing. I have the Hifiman he400i and the mk3. The he400i paired with my Sony Walkman ZX2 and the Fiio E12 portable amp out shines the mk3 in the treble region but when connected to my Nobsound hybrid tube amp, the mk3 outshined the he400i in both the high frequencie n mid bass region. So you may want to consider trying a tube amp. However don't make it my Nobsound because its still asking for more power to truly pump the bass area. FYI. I just purchased a real tube amp by little dot mark II. I will be testing this one to see if it performs even better than the Nobsound 08.

Ares78No problem I will, I will add that if you need a portable amp for on the go, nothing will beat the Fiio E12 amp. It puts out a whopping 850mW of power the strongest in it's class and it can be had for 100.00 bucks and you'll luv the bass boost and your mk3 will appreciate it.
TonyRizoThe E12 is gonna set me back 260CAD, I think I'm just gonna save up for one amp. Problem is in Canada amps and dacs for some reason have a 60% import tax. My friend bought a schiit stack, which is like 200USD but turned out to be nearly 450CAD (or about 340USD) once it got here.

TonyRizoYou need a hybrid tube amp (or full solid state) with these or the MK3's because you want a tube stage for the voltage gain (pre-stage) and a solid state for the amp stage (power stage). Pure tube amps often have very high output impedance. This is bad with the MK3's and these HiFiMan's as their own headphone impedance is really low. You want at least a 5:1 ratio out headphone impedance to amp output impedance. Using a solid state in the power stage/output stage lets the amp have low output impedance (less than 5 ohms) and so you will get proper bass response from the amp. Using a full tube amp will always leave you lacking bass in these headphones and the MK3's because of their high output impedance.

EniGmA1987T.y that's sounds about right. So far I still get the best sound straight out of my Denon 4311ci receiver via the headphone jack. It drives the mk3 and the he400i just fine. Next as a portable, the Fiio E12 paired with the Sony ZX2. I have even more volume paired with the Astell &Kern 120ii and the Cayin c5 portable amp that puts out 800mW. Thanks for the input. I don't connect to my laptop as I don't have the office set up for that. Nor care to be stationary in one spot to listen to music. I mostly listen from my deck while enjoying a good scotch.
