Hi all.
I'm interested in this drop but i've saw that in the HifiMan shop have discounts on some products like the HE-560. I want a new planar headphones but i've never listened an HifiMan product and i have some doubts. Which are the differences between this 4XX and the 560 in terms of sound?. Which have better bass sound quality between them?. Is enought to enjoy this headphones with an SB X7 or do i need a dedicated amp?.
Regards.

ApoloniusFrom the sounds of it this is designed to work without a dedicated amp, so it will be fine with what you have. The HE-560 on the other hand needs a pretty hefty amp, though actually the X7 looks fine based on its specifications. I can't comment on sound quality having not heard either, but I do know that the HE-560 is very well regarded, and a higher end product, so the expectation is that it would be better. I guess it comes down to how cheaply you could get the 560s and how much you want to spend.

MetaMorph93 Db sensitivity is quite low not to have dedicated amplification. Hifiman said the same thing about the 400is (same sensitivity same impedance), that they can be used straight from portable devices, but the output of a smartphone is not powerful enough. The Innerfidelity article about this drop mention the same. That said, I don't find the hp output of the X7 but should be enough since they spec it to drive 600 ohms headphones (this spec doesn't mean much but that's an indicator)

MetaMorphI want to spend the money on a good planar and with the discount in the HifiMan web the HE-560 cost 499$ plus 120$ with taxes because i live in Spain, but if we look that the real price is 899$ and if i don't need to spend more money on a dedicated amp then here is the real deal.
On the other hand, i love the heavy bass (I have own DT-990 and DT-770) but, if the bass don't have quality or sound artificial as the Dr Dre series then i don't even want to see them in 100 meters around me. So for that i have looked the DT-1990 that cost the same of HE-560 and could be another candidate and i can spend money on this drop to have an entry in the world of the planar headphones and the DT-1990 or only bet for the HE-650... doubts, doubts, doubts... this night i will speak with my pillow and i hope that tomorrow will have a decision hehe.

Pierre111You're right, 93db is pretty low. The specs for the X7 amp chip (a TI TPA6120A2) give a max output of 1.5W though, so I doubt power is an issue.

Apolonius560's are extremely good headphones. There are rumours about the 5XX coming soon so if they are reasonably priced with the same drivers as the 560's I'm tempted to wait for those.

Will888That is a good news but, will be the same specs of the 560 or will be an hybrid of the HE-500 and HE-560 as the HE-4XX with the 400i and 400s?.
I could wait for the drop of the 5XX but my brain is in "mode buying on"...

Pierre111Don't know where are these rumours from, this comment tell that: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-hifiman-he4xx-planar-magnetic-headphones/talk/1774306. Anyway, if there is no 5XX in the next months, i will go for a 2nd hand Audeze LCD2. I want an entry level planar and a mid/high level planar so, with this drop i can get the basic level and with the 5XX, 560 or LCD2 my mission will be complete hehe.
Regards.
