Ironically, "protein leather" contains neither protein nor leather.

My understanding is that true protein leather is made using egg protein in addition to resin. But along the way, regular pleather started being called protein leather as well, although it is entirely petroleum based, and contains no protein at all.
Not sure whether this is straight pleather or real protein leather.
