For anyone who wants some EQ to change around the sound a bit, EqualizerAPO (https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/) is a really good program for system wide EQ. I created this EQ here that makes the sound more neutral throughout the mid and highs. It gets rid of the slight sibilance that these headphones have. I did boost the low end a bit to give them a little more punch which I like, so these settings arent completely flat. If you want to make it completely neutral then just remove the boost on 63Hz and 100Hz, and the cut on 125Hz: http://www.mediafire.com/file/b8mbj60tc2563ix/HE4XX.txt

These settings also add a crossfeed filter that makes the headphone sound far more open and spacious by tricking your brain into thinking the sound is wrapping around your head more, like you were listening to things in a live space or with large room speakers further away. You can remove the crossfeed by deleting the last line of the file: Copy: L=L+0.5*R1 R=R+0.5*L1 Without that line telling the EQ to copy the audio back into the other channels then the crossfeed is not made use of so it is effectively off. You can also mess around with the delay in the crossfeed to make the sound stage wider or more narrow. 2ms is the minimum I would use as 1ms has some phasing issues. The higher the delay the more spacious the audio is, up till somewhere around 8-10ms. Higher than that and it starts to sound just like a delay effect on everything. You can also adjust the strength of the crossfeed by changing the multiplier used in the last line. I use 0.5 for 50% as my default, but you can go higher or lower as well. Lower you may not hear the effect at all, and too high will ruin your stereo seperation of the audio.

Feel free to use this EQ file as a base and then tweak to your hearts content.

EniGmA1987Might I also recommend installing PEACE to go along with equalizerAPO (it's on the sidebar of the sourceforge page) it's quite handy! I'll be checking out your EQ base as well though!

youareme7ya Peace works very well. It was always the utility I used for a long time. APO itself comes with an editor now though so I just use that as it is easier for me. Peace is still the most powerful though, and can do advanced features easier. Its definitely a great companion program.

EniGmA1987Personally, I think this makes the sound seem like it's coming in through a funnel, not sure what's with that.

A_Typical_DropA funnel huh? Thats very interesting. Did you try removing the crossfeed effect and see if that is causing it for you? And is there something specific that you are listenning to that sounds bad, or everything you listen to while trying it?

EniGmA1987Bad EQ at first glance for most reference headphones.

zhouharveyYes, that would be a bad EQ for reference headphones, or a reference EQ. Fortunately, neither the headphones or EQ are reference level.

Primus2112In the config.txt file under your speaker output device, you tell it which EQ file to use for that device.
