Got my pair of HE4XX in the post today. I was initially pleased with them out of the box.
Really nice design and finish, it looks great, and after initial test playing through a few albums to get a feel for them and put them through their paces I found that they are great for listening to death metal. The bass is really well punctuated, nice and tight but still deep, not clouding over highs or mids which were also clear, with the varied tone of each individual instrument being distinguishable.
Needless to say I WAS impressed.
They can be ran without an amp, but output will need to be cranked to get reasonable volume, I maxed out the volume on both my smartphone and DAP to get decent listening volume from either device, but the sound was fantastic.
But it was only a short hour or two into discovering the finer points of these headphones when I began to encounter a problem, particularly, audio in the right earcup started cutting out.
As it turns out the Jacks at the base of the headphones aren't particularly well made, and while the left one functions without problem, the right connection on my headset is very much a serious problem even in the few short hours i've been able to use the headset since opening, After a quick glance through this discussion and seeing similar posts it seems there is much left to be desired in regards to Quality Control on this product, and while it's audio performance is remarkable for its price, the product fails to work as intended at this point.
Very much looking forward to when I can actually put these through their paces and enjoy the uninterrupted experience, they do sound great, and pack a real punch.
