CokemanCan anyone tell me if these HIFIMAN or the Massdrop Sennheiser 580 Jubilee come closest to my aging but still favorite AKG K 501 for classical music. Thanks.

CokemanI already have the T-X0. Is it worth it to go for the 4XX or should I just get the K7XX? For the 6XX there’s no shipping for me, and can’t be bothered to go through 3rd party shipping service.
Edit: Going to be used for everyday listening and gaming.
DxterI'm curious too. I have the K7xx and absolutely love them.. Not sure if I need more headphones I've got Beyerdynamic DT770, AKG M220 and K7xx and a few other pairs lying around. I never use my Sennheisers anymore.

DxterI have the 650s, not the 6xx. And the k7xx. The 650s are amazing for music but not as good for gaming imo. The k7xx are definitely my choice for gaming. So open! For easy to listen to as well. The music is comparably between the two but i feel the k7xx is better for a range of things like music and movies. I have the 4xx coming next month too.
Btw this is all through my new schiit jotunheim with the multibit dac. Love it!!!

Aech661@OakParkMusicGuy @Aech661 Man I envy you guys. All those amazing headphones! I only have a budget for one at the moment.
Reeaally tempted to go for the HE4XX. I've seen some amazing reviews on K7XX but also bad ones. Reading all the reviews and your feedback, might have made it more difficult to choose lol
Aech661Funny, I use the 6XX more for gaming and movies than music and heavily enjoy them for that. Same with the 4XX. Been playing Far Cry 5 with both of them and they both work well for dialogue and positional audio. Both are relatively not fatiguing over long gaming sessions and sound 'big' enough to pinpoint the direction of noises and voices. They're both pretty 3D sounding especially when it comes to planes whizzing over your head or hearing rain strike a roof while you're indoors.

Aech661All though I do hear the the 4xxs are even more open. I can’t wait for mine to come. Been waiting for 2 months now. One more to go! Haha
Aech661Maybe more open. But imaging, especially height and depth go to the 6XX for me. The 4XX is also no slouch but has a different punch to them I find works well for action movies and SP shooter's like Wolfenstein II as those weapons all just have heavy, chunky SFX that the 4XX delivers with aplomb. My only complaint though is depending on the game effects, the treble on the 4XX can get a bit thin and tizzy sounding, almost coming off as grating and requiring me to dial down the volume. The 6XX are smooth operators and gels everything together to well and places things where they should be all around you. Best thing they do is with voices and depth as I can easily distinguish how far an enemy is compared to an ally that could be at my backside while in a firefight. Oddly enough, I prefer both to gaming and movies over music most days.

jaydunndidditi just liked that the7xxs are a little for laid back. The 650s were too precise for gaming for me. I played pubg with them and was like wow these are amazing. Then I shot the gun and almost blew my ears off haha. The k7xxs don’t hit too hard in the treble and mid. Better bass on the 650s for sure thOugh. Plus the k7xxs are a little more open so I can hear if my baby is Awake haha.

DxterSo I had the opportunity to AB test my friends k7xx and my he4xx (done on a schiit stack). I don't know every audiophile term, but the he4xx is good at positioning the sound while the k7xx is good at giving you an illusion of wideness and distance. I found that I enjoyed playing FPS's like Battlefield 3, 4 and Insurgency more with the he4xx mainly due to it being more "positional" if that makes sense. As for the k7xx, I enjoyed playing open world games like GTA5 and MGS5 because it gave a better illusion of ambiance and sound flowing in from around you. It all depends on what you play really.
CokemanThe k7xx was too wide for me while gaming so I switched to the HD 6xx. The k7xx has punchier bass but the HD 6xx is more clear in vocals, mids, and trebble. The k7xx definitely is the most comfortable with no break in required for the head band. I had to stretch the HD 6xx over its own box for a week to get rid of the fatiguing squeeze. Now I pretty much have only been using the HD 6xx since I've become a bit more sensitive to bass and don't want to overwhelm my eardrums.

jaydunndidditI know this may be controversial but I found that my 4xx really settled into their own and now has none of that tinny high end, but it took approx 500 hours or so plugged into the BasX A-100 at what I would consider 33% of max volume (not on the amp, but of what I consider to be max appreciable volume on the cans). I have never ran a "burn in" on any of my other headphones, but I have noticed a difference (for the better) in the sound signature on these, or I have lost my mind. Likely a little of both...

zaphrodboxYeah, my experience is that there is at least 100-200 break in and planars need amps. it is criminal to listen to these without amplification ;)
zaphrodboxThat's interesting. Personally, I find the 4XX sound best from anything that uses Burr brown chips. It really adds something to their character and mellows it out a bit compared to some.of my other sources when I want to really crank the volume.

DxterOut of the box I find the 4xx to be the far superior headphone, at least for my tastes.
I thought the T-X0 where a bit too lean for me. Changing the pads of the T-X0 to Dekoni Sheepskin pads helped a good deal, it also add $40+ to the cost.
I would strongly recommended the 4xx. Of course we all different taste, so YMMV.

RojasTKDThanks for your feedback. My gripe with the T-X0 is the weight. I can’t wear them more than an hour. The first few weeks I had them, gave me headaches after prolonged use. Might pull the plug on the HE4XX. Thanks

Dxter HE-4XX = 13.1 oz Fostex T-X0 = 13.6 oz
So weight is similar, but it's going to come down to how it feels on you head.
Dxter I'd venture a guess that the band is tighter on the T-X0 than HE-4XX.

RojasTKDI didn’t realise the two weigh very close. Might be the grip on T-X0 is a bit tighter, like @JediPeaceWalker said. Which is more comfortable in your opinion?

DxterI can't really say I prefer one over the other. They sit on my head a bit differently, but I don't find one better than the other. I don't really have a problem with the weight or comfort of either headphone.
I can't be of much help.

RojasTKDBut what about the Out-of-the-box Thermals?
Couldn't resist, but yeah I think the 4xx was great right out the box, but do think it has settled in some over the last 5 months or so, and I do not listen to them exclusively or really any more than any of my other cans, so kinda doubt I am just acclimatizing to them, but either way is a plus to me.
