1st pair, arrived broken, second arrived exactly the same... worried they'll run out of new ones before I get a pair that isn't broken.... and then its only a matter of days or weeks or however long before it fails, not one pair will survive very long without some OTHER method of attaching the "nutserts" (epoxy maybe?)

xformulaxThis appears to be a manufacturing issue. I love, love my HE4XX but after less than 3 weeks, one of the hex screws came loose . I was able to screw it back in but it inserts too shallow (the screws should be longer) and I fear this will be an ongoing issue. I believe my issue was caused by the "cup holders" being stretched too far open and, the screws being too short in insertion length. IE-before re-inserting the screw, I compressed the bands that attach to the ear cups as they seemed to exert too much outward pressure on the screws that hold them in place. I'm hoping this helps prevent a recurrence but I don't know. Time will tell. They do sound very open and natural and so far I prefer them to the Sennheiser HD6XX's I also own. PS-they also took a full three weeks before fully breaking in. The sound is significantly better after this period of time. I recommend running them a good 50 hours (at least) before fully judging their capabilities.

SGvaA week or two ago I bent the over stretched "yoke?" that holds the cup so that it was pinching the cup instead of pulling away and it has held up fine to normal use. I'm going to take both cups off at some point and make sure they are both the proper tension to ensure these last as long as they should.
I too got the HD6xx to A-B compare and while I liked the HE4xx more initially, I don't know if its my ears or break in, but I'm starting to like the HD6xx more now. (been running them both at night to speed up break in so they have about the same amount of hours now.) The HE4xx is a little sibilant with "S" sounds to me and that's one thing that really fatigues my ears. I don't really have "proper" gear (fiiio e7dac docked on e9 amp) but I plan on upgrading soon and will continue to compare them, the HE4xx is definitely more "fun" and the HD6xx more analytical but not overly neutral/boring, with enough power/volume the bass comes through very well and I look forward to driving them properly. ( I also EQ pretty much everything to my taste). I've also used a Sennheiser headset with 595 drivers for like 5 or 6 years now so I've always liked the "sennheiser" sound.
