Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Thanks to the thread at SBAF I found this fr graph of the original RE-0. http://rinchoi.blogspot.ca/2013/01/hifiman-re-0.html
The original RE-0 is a much more neutral sound signature despite the peaks and valleys in the treble. The reason I loved the original so much is the presence and peak at 15k which provides so much detail not heard in most budget HP's. They headphones would actually compliment each other nicely with the Ostry's fun signature vs the RE-0's detailed neutral signature. To be clear I much prefer the RE-0, YMMV. The Ostry's provide less than average IEM isolation while the RE-0 with the double flanged white tips provide excellent, well above average isolation (I just pulled out my old RE-0 with one working channel to confirm this). The Hifiman double flanged tip that comes with these is actually my favorite all-time tip. It's very secure, provides excellent isolation, is very comfortable for me (YMMV) and sounds the best to me as well. That excellent isolation is really key for hearing the most subtle details.
Here again is the RE-00 FR graph: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/massdrop-version-of-hifiman-re-00-for-35-new-cable.1973/#post-49841
Comparing this graph to the original. I feel safe to assume they are actually going for the identical sound signature. I think there are some measurement anomalies between the two but the peaks and valleys show up at the same frequencies even if though they show different curves. This evidence and the fact that MD has not claimed to have re-tuned these leaves me fairly confident in this conclusion.
So they're 35 dollars - order a pair then forget about it until August. Listen to the Ostry's or something similar til then. When the drop shows up they will show you the detail you have been missing. If you want more bass you can EQ the RE-0 but you may require an amp if you really want to give them a major boost in the low end. Buy them!
