How do these compare to the Ostry KC06?

Shawn221@Shawn221 I haven't heard the KC06 but I do own the KC06A from a previous drop. The Ostry is a warm fun sound with boosted bass and an inoffensive rolled off treble. I personally don't use them much because as you can see from the FR graph linked the treble drops off a cliff at 12 khz so you essentially hear nothing above 12 khz. http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/OstryKC06.pdf
Thanks to the thread at SBAF I found this fr graph of the original RE-0. http://rinchoi.blogspot.ca/2013/01/hifiman-re-0.html
The original RE-0 is a much more neutral sound signature despite the peaks and valleys in the treble. The reason I loved the original so much is the presence and peak at 15k which provides so much detail not heard in most budget HP's. They headphones would actually compliment each other nicely with the Ostry's fun signature vs the RE-0's detailed neutral signature. To be clear I much prefer the RE-0, YMMV. The Ostry's provide less than average IEM isolation while the RE-0 with the double flanged white tips provide excellent, well above average isolation (I just pulled out my old RE-0 with one working channel to confirm this). The Hifiman double flanged tip that comes with these is actually my favorite all-time tip. It's very secure, provides excellent isolation, is very comfortable for me (YMMV) and sounds the best to me as well. That excellent isolation is really key for hearing the most subtle details.
Here again is the RE-00 FR graph: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/massdrop-version-of-hifiman-re-00-for-35-new-cable.1973/#post-49841
Comparing this graph to the original. I feel safe to assume they are actually going for the identical sound signature. I think there are some measurement anomalies between the two but the peaks and valleys show up at the same frequencies even if though they show different curves. This evidence and the fact that MD has not claimed to have re-tuned these leaves me fairly confident in this conclusion.
So they're 35 dollars - order a pair then forget about it until August. Listen to the Ostry's or something similar til then. When the drop shows up they will show you the detail you have been missing. If you want more bass you can EQ the RE-0 but you may require an amp if you really want to give them a major boost in the low end. Buy them!

slambannaWow. Thanks for the detailed response. Looks like I'll be selling my KC06. I actually got them from a drop in August last year. Comfort was a big issue with them. Can you compare the comfort?

Shawn221I haven't had any comfort issues with my Ostry's but the RE-00 has a much smaller body and are very lightweight so I can't see them being a problem for you.

slambannaYeah the weight and size of the KC06 was annoying for me. Do you wear them over the ear or with the wire just going straight down?

Shawn221I've always just gone for straight down. Before I go I should say that I wouldn't plan on selling your Ostry's before you hear the RE-00's. They are very different sound signatures and some people can never get used a neutral bass signature or just find them too bright. I definitely gave the lows a slight boost back in the day. Most importantly though, it's always good to have a decent back up set of IEM's.

slambannathis is great information for everyone but especially for those on the fence. No doubt these are sick ones.
