Got mine last night and was trying them out in the office with a Sansa Clip Plus. They sound terrible on orchestral music, which is a far cry from either the vintage Koss KSC-75s that I have here in the office, or my reference IEMs, Etymotic ES-4s (which IMHO sound fabulous even without an amp with this player). I’m assuming that there is a burn-in factor at play here – as there is with most audio equipment, although there may not be. They may just sound thin and harsh on orchestral music (which the unamplified Etymotics do not). Not thrilled to read about the reliability issues that others are having, since they could serve their purpose, if reliable, if only for use with Teaching Company lectures via the Clip. But I am surprised just how bad they sound out of the box.

duettaYes, those exact problems take care of themselves after only 5 or so hours of burn in. Also, comparing them to $350 Etymotics is ridiculous. You could buy one RE00 for the entire Cubs starting lineup for the cost of one er4p

SlowCousinPetePete, thanks for the input.  I will put them through a burn-in cycle.
