This is probably an obvious question, but I can't seem to find an obvious answer: I've jumped on the drop, but also want to get another set of a different flavor of Kaihua switches with the special light pipe, etc. What's a good source to look to? (I'm based in the US.) Thanks!

bcbishopThe switches with the light pipe aren't available anywhere else currently. Somewhere they stated that the switches will be available in a separate drop in the future.

ChitownM2Gotcha, thanks @ChitownM2. Much appreciated!

ChitownM2I have to say that all this work into making hot swappable switches when there are no other truly compatible switches is kinda funny.

ChitownM2Is the light pipe different than just having a clear bottom? Zealios are made with the Zeal60 in mind, which uses PCB mounted LEDs, so I assume that the non milky Zealios would work well?

gdoteofthe light pipe just maximizes the amount of light that shines through to the keycap. Any switch with a clear housing will still allow (less) light to shine through. Plus, RGB lighting isn't very important to a large number of mech key enthusiasts. Most of them will replace the shine through caps with something custom anyway.

TelFiREI would assume that zealios would work as well on this board as they would on a zeal 60. From what I've read, the new switches with the light pipe would work even better and allow more light to reach the keycap.

ChitownM2RGB lighting is actually important to a massive number of mech enthusiasts, I think that is demonstrated fairly thoroughly by the success of this drop and the Zeal60 PCB, literally the only enthusiast PCBs available that support RGB. And yeah of course they're going to replace the shine through caps, that has nothing to do with whether they like RGB lighting or not. There is just a big old RGB counter-culture of people who think it's edgy to shit on others' preferences is all.

TelFiREA massive number of me doesn't care about RGB and would rather pay less for swapable switches.

BrttWell, there are plenty of boards for you to choose from. Why are you complaining about literally THE ONLY board that will work for people who DO like RGB? You already have a million products for you, buggar off and let us have this.

TelFiREYou're quite keen on shitting on others' preferences... Would that be edgy ?

BrttTelFIRE's been explaining to you that your preferences have been met by several non-RGB swappable keyboards on MD alone, while his and my preferences -- swappable + RGB + the possibility of heavier tactile switches -- have never been met until now.
If he sounds impatient, it's because you're being kind of an ass, esp. just now, when you tried to turn his words against him while completely ignoring their context. His point was that you profess to speak for every mechanical keyboard enthusiast in disliking RGB even as you discount the reality that (1) I:C spent years doing this in the first place and (2) massive numbers of the K-Type have sold already.
If you're not interested, that's understandable. Nothing's wrong with your prefs, but the same is true of everyone else's.

BrttDid not intend for this question to start such a back and forth, but have to agree with @Varholiaglimp here.
1. Flexibility is a huge part of why this keyboard is exciting.
2. For those that don't want RGB, turn it off. For those that do (or want to experiment), this is an incredible option that should be celebrated.
3. At the same time, having hot-swapping as a marquee feature without additional sets of light pipe switches readily available isn't ideal. That shouldn't be seen as a controversial statement, either, because...
4. As long as said switches eventually are available, all is golden.
But perhaps I should have just asked @OverKill directly in the first place: Are there plans for an additional drop with the full suite of light pipe enabled switches, or just the Halos? Thanks. :-)

VarholiaglimpIf one can't argue for the sake of arguing, what has become of the Internet I used to know ?!
You might have been a bit overboard with your statement: "His point was that you profess to speak for every mechanical keyboard enthusiast in disliking RGB"
Unlike TelFIRE and yourself (in your last comment), I didn't speak for anyone but myself. Allow me to quote myself with added emphasis: "A massive number of me doesn't care about RGB and would rather pay less for swapable switches."
I'm here because I'm interested. And since I'm interested, I'd like even more "configuration options" that hit more of *my* buttons, just like about everybody on earth regarding any product. Since I can't recognize the Internet anymore, is free speech still a thing, or has it been overrun by flaming ?
Don't get me wrong, I know and acknowledge people love their fancy colors, but I like customization (albeit a different one) myself, and if a K-Type would ever be released without said RGB, I'd be quite happy (as would my wallet). Hell, I'd even go for a barebone one, as it has been asked here and there (meaning: no switches, no caps). I get that being the first release of K-Type, one can't ask for too much, but I'm worried that any further possible variation would be well into 2018, and that's far away.
Ah well, I didn't intended for this to be a wall'o'text (of sorts).
@bcbishop : sorry for derailing your question :/

BrttApologies for conflating ChitownM2's post with one of yours (easy to do on a smartphone while disembarking the Metro North). It was s/he who said: "Plus, RGB lighting isn't very important to a large number of mech key enthusiasts."
Even ChitownM2 could argue that speaking for a "large number of mech key enthusiasts" isn't speaking for every enthusiast. But in context, s/he did seem to imply that a large number was actually the majority.
BTW: I appreciate the considerate tone of your reply.
