For the people outside of the first 500 orders, will there be any sort of consideration for serial number? Not expecting a guarantee, but what are the chances for the people in the first 1000 orders to get a three digit serial?
patthickeyWhat I think they are doing is setting aside two piles of K-types: one with KB with a serial number of 600 and below, and one pile with all the rest of the K-types starting at 601. When they ship, I think they will just be picking a random keyboard from whichever pile to which your order belongs. Sadly, that means I probably won't be getting #500 (when I completed my order the page said there were 400 orders even). It does mean I could get some super-early number, but I would have prefered that everyone got a serial number in the order in which they were placed. Sadly, that would put a lot more stress on the order fulfillment team and take longer to process, so I understand why they have to do it like this (if that is actually what they are doing).
@OverKill: BTW, great job Input Club! 2500+ orders is pretty amazing for a niche product like this, and I'm glad people are so excited to buy an open source hardware/software/firmware product (even if the openness didn't factor into their reasons for buying). That goes to show that open hardware or hardware with open source firmware/software can be successful in the marketplace.
I don't know whether some Chinese outfit will try to build a cheaper, low quality K-type to be sold on eBay or an Aliexpress/TaoBao type site, but I hope Input Club will still be successful with the K-type in the future because of an attention to detail and a focus on delivering quality. I want regular manufacturers to learn that Open Source is the best way to serve their customers (Can you imagine how amazing an open source software and firmware would be for a product like the Corsair K70 RGB? There would be a ton of interesting community firmwares and software mods).

TipsyMacScotchslurpenOh yeah, that is exactly what I was assuming as well. My question was more about if they have any intentions of attempting to keep them in any order. I was around order 700 (iirc) and would love to get the three digit serial. I know it's not guaranteed to me, but I was trying to gauge what my chances were haha
patthickeyYeah, I would love it if they did try to get them out the door in order, but they would have had no reason to guarantee that the first 500 would get a serial below 600 if they were planning to do so. Maybe they can try to get them out the door in "sorta order", but even that would probably take more effort than what their box stuffers are paid for doing. :(
Good luck, though! Maybe you'll be able to get a lucky serial!
TipsyMacScotchslurpenHey thanks for the kind words! We would also love to see more open source products in the world :)
