Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

some articles i read said it can be a bad/wrong cable, however i'm using the one that came with this drop, so i doubt it's that.
I switched the -10 to +4db sensitivity and that brought it down quite noticably, however it's still there, and on top of that, i now have to turn the speakers to max and and use my control knob up most of the way to get it to nice loud(ish) volumes.
The other obvious culprit is my on board audio is getting interference, but my motherboard is supposed to have an above average sound card (it reports it as a Sound Blaster-FI MB5+ALC1220 1200b SNR HD Audio), so i would hope that's not the case. (it doesn't seem to happen when i plug them into my phone, which would have a worse DAC, i'd assume)
They're both, and the computer, plugged into a grounded strip.
any quick/good ideas?
I have ordered a pair which are getting delivered soon. I did some research before buying however I am no expert.
From what you are describing, it sounds like you have ground loop loop interference. From what I understand, it occurs often when the source input and monitors are powered from the same source - ie the same power strip.
What you could try is to have the monitors running on a different power strip to the PC/ DAC if possible. NB: Different at the wall too - so different wall sockets. From what I've read and understood from conversations from someone working at a my local musical instrument and equipment store, that should clear up any buzzing or interference.
If that doesn't help, then sorry - I don't know enough to give a somewhat educated opinion.
Good luck!
the buzzing gets worse exponentially when i start up a game. different games make a different buzz, which i thought was odd.
*Update: I was wrong, it was solely because i ripped out the grounding plug of a power cable that my computer hooked up to. So that i didn't have to keep my computer plugged in with no grounding, i purchased this guy for 9 bucks https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B019393MV2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . after hooking that up, no problems.
