How do these compare to the Yamaha HS5's? Thanks in advance! (looking for budget speakers suitable for studio monitoring)

ShattersMore bass, or colored. Wider sweet spot with the wave guide. I've listened to these at G.C. side by side of the yams. Got the Yams because they were flatter. I would like these as another reference. These are near field. If I were using these in a larger room, I'd add a sub. For a small room studio you have to be careful about bass or add some sound tratment like bass traps.

ElsidThank you for the insight. I do feel the need to have a flatter sound for referencing purposes. I watch massdrop for a hs5 drop.

ElsidI disagree that the LSR305s are inherently colored. It's true that the HS5s' lack of bass will make them have a more balanced frequency response than the LSR305s in small rooms without acoustic treatment. But in any other situation (medium to large rooms or any room with acoustic treatment), the LSR305s are flatter.
I used to think that the LSR305s had too much bass and too dull treble when I first heard them in a GC. But a couple years later I realized that the only reason I thought they had too much bass was my ears were adjusted to the frequency response of my Sony MDR-V6s; my ears thought that the MDR-V6s were flat. It's hard to comprehend just how massively this "adjustment" changes your judgment.
After increasing the variety of headphones and speakers I listen to regularly, my ears are no longer adjusted for any one device. And after re-listening to the LSR305s both in G.C. and in a friend's bedroom studio, with proper acoustic treatment, I think that they're flatter than the HS5s.

RaymondblHi, You are correct about getting used to certain frequency ranges, that is why I have many reference that I use. I switch up on all my equipment. I love the Jbl and will be getting some. I'd like to get these because they're supposed to be matched. What I really want is too expensive for me right now, but I eventually will. I always do. I have a small studio and with everything that I needed to purchase the yams were my first pick. Pro tools, mics (can't go cheap on mics) more instruments etc. You get the picture. Anyways its subjective and I like both. The story behind the yams. A famous producer heard these and said" If I can make music sound good on these , It'll sound good on anything."Now, thats a story for some perspective. Mixing can be painful. Haha! Have a good one!

ShattersThis is a really good deal. I have yams, but I still want these as second reference.
