Just got my speakers today, anyone have any advice to get the hissing to stop. The two switches are set to 0 in the middle and the volume knob basically only stops the hissing when they are set to 0. The hissing is the same whether the speakers are plugged into my laptop or my ipad or not even plugged in at all with the cords completely removed. At first they were plugged in (power) to a monster HT800, then i plugged the HT800 into my monster HTS 2500 then I just plugged them into the wall then into the HD2500 only and all give the same pretty strong annoying audible hiss with the power on. The monster things are supposed to deliver clean power. Any ideas anyone? Btw, both speakers hiss the same.

Do you have a dac and/or a pre-amp to plug them into? That will most likely solve your problem

FrostyPBut it hisses with the cable completely ungplugged. Is that normal and I mean even unplugged from whatever and unplugged from the speaker so basically a speaker with only the power cable is hissing?

There's a sensitivity switch on the back, like -10db and +4db. It's hard to see but changing to +4 may help.

Oh, the only other thing I can think of is cleaning the power up even cheaply. Even though these are cheap, I swear by them Furman SS6B 6 Plug Surge Protector https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002D017M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RdHOzb44KSFMP

I have both the 305s and 308s setup at my studio. There is a slight hiss coming out if I get right next to it. The gains on both are set to three o clock. Yours might be defective, but both of them doing the same thing would be rare if defective. Maybe I'm less sensitive.

TommypsychoThese are desk computer speakers you are always right next to them lol and I can hear the hiss from my normal distance away sitting in my chair. I can slightly hear it when listening to music on a low volume. I'm pretty sure that's not normal :( if I get close it's district that the tweeter is hissing and not the 5" speaker. Is the gain the volume knob on the back?

These are studio monitors, not consumer desktop speakers. Mine are on weighted monitor stands about four feet from my head (36 inches high, much higher than desk) making an equal triangle. I think yours are defective. Very slight audible hiss placing my ear right next to them. Gain is the knob on the back.
