Has anybody else received damaged speakers? One of mine was damaged but the packaging was in mint condition. Must've happened at the factory.

RyanG1118Mine had some scratches and the glossy finish was really damaged on the top of one of the speakers, almost like someone had scratched it by putting something on it and then tried extra hard to remove the scratch by using some kind of solvent, making it even worse than it was to begin with. I assume at this price, we're getting other people's returns and they maybe not be brand new units. There was nothing wrong with the sound though, so at this price I'm willing to live with the blemishes on the finish.
In your case, that's pretty severe and I'd be sending them back and asking for an exchange.

ra990I'd be OK with some light scratches or something but this is unacceptable IMO. I sent Massdrop an email so we'll see what happens and I'll keep you guys updated. Other than that these monitors are amazing especially for the price.

RyanG1118You guys are crazy for saying you would or have accepted damaged items, you should get new equipment in new condition, unacceptable on Massdrop and JBL's part, especially if they are repackaging returns for resale. Mine also came damaged with no apparent damage to the box they were shipped in. The ring around the speaker is cracked at one of the bolting points, possibly due to over tightening during manufacturing. Super disappointing, I emailed massdrop I really hope I get are refund, replacement, or at least a replacement piece. I think last time I returned for warranty they made me pay for shipping. I am going to be angry if they make me pay the shipping back for the return considering it never even made it to me in one piece.

ttran946I agree, if these are previously returned items, then it should be stated that they're not new. And if they're not, then there's no excuse for the quality control because the blemish was so blatant and immediately noticeable on my set, that it shouldn't have passed any kind of QC check. However, the first set I ordered at the $279 price went back because there was a rattle in one of the speakers at certain frequencies. These, despite the blemish, sound just fine, and I don't feel like going through another return process. It is disappointing though and you have every right to demand a refund or exchange in both your case and the OP's, those are way to extreme to accept.

ttran946I wouldn't want to accept damaged items but I don't want to go through a return process. However, I am gonna send these back for a replacement. What's wierd though is my box had Massdrop branded brown tape on top of the box covering some clear tape. I'll post a picture here in a few. Anybody else have brown Massdrop tape on their box?

ra990I wonder if the manufacturer is cutting corners to allow these speakers to sell at a lower price or if these are returns like you suggested. Either way is f***** up though. I want a brand new pair in mint condition or a refund.

RyanG1118Mine is packaged the same way. I really want to believe massdrop/JBL would not repackage returned items for sale as new items. Probably just an error before packaging I'm guessing. Hopefully massdrop support pulls through with refund/replacements.

ttran946I want to believe they wouldn't do that either. This is my first Massdrop purchase as well as my first JBL product. This leaves a little of a bad taste in my mouth but Massdrop support has already got back to me and they are going to send out a replacement pair.

RyanG1118Yes, after seeing these horror pictures I checked every side closely. Quick 1st impression. Bass is better than I thought it would be using the 2db boost. Doesn't get as loud as my bookshelves connected to my avr. (Max watts is far higher on my passive speakers.) Very happy with near field sound. Used the included cable to connect directly to the headphone jack in the tv. Later the speakers on their sides with both tweeters facing out. I am amazed at the imaging. I literally got up and put my ear to the tv speakers to make sure the sound wasn't coming from it! I have a shiit stack but won't get to that today. I know I could hook it straight to the Magni 3 headphone jack, but I think getting rca cables to connect straight to the Modi 2 uber would be better. Opinions? I have no balanced equipment now or in the immediate future.

NumberoneqThat's cool I'm glad you like them. I'm a pc gamer and I have them hooked up to my pc with a Fiio E07K that I've had for 4 years and they sound great. However, I want to get a better solution such as the Nuforce udac 5 from Massdrop. Do you or anybody else have any hiss coming from your speakers? I have mine set on max volume and I control the volume with my E07K and there's a loud hiss when nothing is playing. It kinda sucks.

RyanG1118Play with the cable. As soon as I set mine up I connected my phone. I would get intermittent hiss whenever the cable moved. Also, plug any other source in see if you still hear it. When I sat my phone down it was fine. Plugged into tv. It is fine. I have it set to full volume on the amps as well. Edit:at full volume with nothing playing I can start to hear the hiss at about 1ft from the speaker. With nothing playing pull the cable out. If you hear less noise then the dac/amp may be adding noise. The sound you hear with the audio cable removed is the sound floor from the integrated amp.

NumberoneqWhen plugged into my phone there's very little noise which is probably from the amps like you said. I wonder if there's a ground loop issue going on with my pc? Everything's plugged into a furman surge protector/power conditioner. Eitherway I plan on replacing my fiio with a udac 5 and connecting them via rca to trs cables. Maybe that'll fix the issue.

RyanG1118AudioQuest - Jitterbug USB Filter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YTA78FW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_4YCrAbB10ZTZC Some people find something like this helps. Noise on the usb is possible. I have read to try different ports. See if the level changes. I hope you figure it out.
