Hey guys. Turns out these are a big too big for the space I have on my computer rooms desk as I am a pc gamer first and listen to my hd 650s only through spotify premium 320kps mp3 (so no crazy lossless flacs for me) but I am wondering what budget unit ($100-200)would I need to be able to hook these up to my smart tv in the living room via optical to get these to work? I’ve heard about the Go rack but those are discontinued and harder to find.
ive tried googling this but it is confusing for a beginner like me and don’t want to waste money on a unit that won’t work and have to send it back. Btw I have the mayflower ARC dac/amp hooked Up to my computer and was going to use the preouts to play the speakers from my computer

RareAirsBearing in mind that I'm a complete newbie myself, it looks like a DAC with an optical input would serve your purpose well. There aren't any active drops for a dedicated DAC, but all you'd need to do is find one like this one (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/51805) that accepts optical as an input. Then a simple RCA to 1/4" cable would connect the speakers.

RareAirsIs your desk up against a wall? You might consider what i did for my surround sound in my bedroom. I basically went to Home Depot bought s shelf, a couple of shelf brackets/supports a s a few drywall anchors. I cut the shelfs in half and make "speaker shelfs".
I also used some angled brackets to help support the "speaker shelfs " and used some Audioengine DS2 angled speaker stands to angle the speakers down. Looks like this:

Though you could get these to work with your TV and the living room, and they probably sound real good. These are meant to be used as near field monitors it will sound at their absolute best on (or as I'm suggesting above your desk) close to your listening position.

RojasTKDI just bought a new house and remodeled the entire house and took a lot of sweat and money so drilling holes into the walls makes me cringe right now even though I may end up making shelves or I might end up getting a new computer desk out of one of those 6.5 foot table tops so I would have plenty of room for my 2 computer monitor setup and still have enough room to set up the 305s. Right now they’re still in the box while I decide

RareAirsI understand. I also considering making a new L shaped desk desk using an Ikea table tops. There is a lot to like about a large desk area ;)

RareAirsHave you considered a Schiit Modi 2 Uber ($150) or a Modi Multibit ($250)? I'm not sure how you plan on controlling volume, but if you need a physical volume knob, you will also need a Schiit Sys ($50). http://www.schiit.com/products/modi-2 The Modi 2 Uber and Modi Multibit have toslink inputs. The base model Modi 2 does not have a toslink input.
