Hard to sell a premium synthetic filled bag when you have no information on the insulation. The insulation is one of the most important parts of the bag!
GLXLREUnderstood! Still waiting on this unfortunately :(

Is the warranty handled by kelty and is it still limited lifetime for the bag?

Step in the right direction for Kelty, using some lighter fabrics...changing to a 10d for the inner shell would be a worthy consideration. A lot of people will see 2.5 pounds and think it's just another ol' affordable camping bag but for an EN comfort rating of 18F in synthetic that's really not too bad at all. Kim, a few techy questions for you, since these answers never seem to make it into product copy these days:
* I see that you said you're waiting for marketing info from Kelty on the insulation, but can you at least share some general info about it? If the bag is box-baffled that would lead me to think it's one of the loose fill insulations....or is it just typical short staple fill?
* You suggested water resistance for the fill as well...silicone-encapsulated treatment for the fibers (such as Montbell and Marmot are doing)?
* And waterproof for the end panels...is that a PU coating or are we just talking DWR treatment on the outside? Same fabric base or something else for those sections?

Great, thanks! I think in this age of Quilts, some of which are pretty dang inexpensive now, bags - and synthetic bags - have fallen out of favor. Still definitely have a place, though. A 10d fabric for the inner may add a little cost, and may not fit into Kelty's general direction of affordable & durable, but it could be a good choice. It will hold up to calloused feet and wearing normal hiking clothing to bed - remarkably durable for how thin it is, but of course slightly less durable long term (although many would argue that).
StepbystepThanks so much for the insight! Great to know for future developments! Really appreciate it !

Does this bag have a zipper/flap that can be opened for foot ventilation? Seems like a solid bag and has me interested but my feet have to breath from time to time!
Side Note*
I am a true Kelty product fan. I use a Kelty 50L Reserve Redwing limited edition backpack for all my out of country travels for work or pleasure and it hasn't let me down yet, solid Product. I also use their Versant sling for environmental field work and daily explorer bag, again another very solid product. Keep up the passionate work you guys do in delivering quality products for us adventurous types especially in a time when design and quality has taken a back seat with so many other companies.
RamulaxThanks for the great insight! I'd love to hear more about your experience with their product! How about Kelty tents?
Regarding the zipper/flap for foot ventilation, yes there is a 2-way zipper so you can open it for ventilation. I had to do this actually this past weekend during a kayaking trip for the same reason! Warm night and needed some airflow.
Hopefully this image helps show this feature? Ignore the colors, this is one of the early prototypes.

Are there any advantages to having nylon taffeta as a liner instead of a cloth? Also, can I throw this in a washing machine?
MoguriHi! Great question! Confirmed with Kelty that the benefit of nylon over a cloth (like cotton) would be weight, compressibility and general safety as a heavier cloth like cotton will hold moisture, take a long time to dry and can cause hypothermia in cold/wet weather.
And yes, this is machine washable, though there are some suggested parameters to extend the life of the bag: - Use a front loader washer and dryer (since the top loaders have an agitator) - Try and use specific detergents for technical product or even eco friendly detergents work as well - If you have them, using loft balls in the dryer with the bag will help keep the loft

Down is a renewable natural resource. I wonder what the thinking is behind replacing the dridown with a petroleum based synthetic fiber. Are the benefits that much better? Are plastic microbeads released into the environment every time this is washed?
yamanjoeGreat questions!
They definitely seem to serve different purposes and are better for different end uses and environments.
The benefits of synthetic insulation are: affordability, faster dry times, ease of care and overall better for wet climates
Down is more expensive, generally harder to care for but does have better weight/warmth

This vs. the Kelty Cosmic 20? I was Going to purchase the tried and true Cosmic for my next backpacking trip, how does this hold up against it. They are relatively the same price.
ChaseyazGood question! Looking at this now. They are very similar. It looks like the two main differences are in the insulation and the weight. Where the Cosmic 20 utilized DriDown, the SB X20 utilizes a new premium synthetic insulation. The fabric weight of the SB X20 is lighter at 20D vs 50D and the overall weight seems a few ounces lighter on the SB X20. All other specs and the overall feature set look the same, minus the waterproof panels on the head and foot of the SB X20.
If weight and weather resistance is a concern, I would say go with the SB X20 (plus the $20 value Kelty pillow!)
If you prefer down, I would say go with the Cosmic 20. In my searching, I found this nice resource on DriDown from Sierra Designs: https://sierradesigns.com/dridown/

kim.suarezThis is an important feature to me! Even making it such that you can correctly zip a R and R but one of them ends up with the underneath segment on top would be a fine first start , when i'm snuggling up with a partner where the headrest part is wont matter too much!
