This drop got me interested in electrostatic headphones, and for that I am grateful, but in the end I will not join for the following reasons: - The price is not as low as it should, considering the well amortized cost of the design, and the fact that the original item was repeatedly advertised new for similar prices (and as low as $450) in the last 15 years - Several pricey items from the original pack were removed (leather bag, battery pack, and now even the additional cable), making the comparison with the original price even less advantageous - The design was essentially unchanged, including often reported issues regarding the volume control knob - The 220V adapter will require a plug adapter for each country, and the standard plug it will have was not stated (might even be an US plug considering how things are handled...). Given the price and availability of 9V/1A DC, 100-240V AC switchers these days (with and probably with a better design that a switcher from the 90s) it might as well be omitted... - How will the lifetime warranty be handled with a "specific" item like this one? (well, specific regarding ear pads and serigraphy, that is) What replacement items will Koss send when a problem occurs in 1, 5 or 20+ years?... - As the design was not changed, the squealing problem that was reported by several users is still likely to occur
Add to that the fact that I live in Europe (meaning import taxes, and high shipping costs in case I need to use the lifetime warranty), and the way Massdrop/Koss are handling this (the cable that silently disappeared for example), and the fate of that drop is sealed for me... Stax SRS-3100 are not that much more expensive either...
I will wait till massdrop clarifies the situation in a next drop, and potentially offer the headphones and amp as separate items, a stax adaptation cable, and other more uptodate amp options...
Just my .02€, your mileage may vary...

posposYeah, agreed on all points. I'm thinking this may be a bit of a grab for the Zeos hype around Estax ~ I've personally never heard a set, but on further research I landed in the same spot as you did.
