Any thoughts on whether or not this is worth it compared to the srs-3100 combo (which con be found for $650-700). From what I've gathered, the stax have a more intense sound and more bass, though I'm wondering if some eq-ing can make up most of the difference.

PankaicThe L300s are quite the bargain. Like Koss, their electrostats technology helps them prevail (arguably) over headphone heavy weights like the HD800s. When sticking to stock gear, I prefer the L300 over the ESP950s. When both are connected to the 353x amp (that’s bundled with the L500), the 950s really shine and I actually prefer them over the L300. While Koss suffers from QC issues, the L300 has some of the dumbest pads. They are so thin that your ears will be pressed against the speaker grills. It’s like Stax went oops these are too perfect, let’s figure out a mean way to get our customers to upgrade.

AudioFazeMm, gotcha. I've seen zeos's review, and yeah, those are way too shallow to be comfortable, haha. I think I'll go for these and upgrade the energizer in the future.

AudioFazeThe first 360 purchasers get a serial no. below 400, not 360. I doubt anyone joining this drop is getting the 000001.

PankaicReally a matter of personal taste. For reference, I didn't think the prior entry level STAX SRS-2170 was competitive with the ESP-95X here. The SRS-3100 still has that Lambda sound which I am not a fan of for most of the models. The Lambdas on the lower end have limp-dick bass. Sure there might be some midbass bloat, but bass heft is weaksauce. The ESP-95X isn't great in terms of bass heft, it's still a stat after all, but it's significantly better and also extends lower, especially with the tweaked pads. What I like most about the ESP-95X is that it has been tweaked with the pads to sound more accurate, neutral that is. Maybe slightly dark as opposed to bright, which suits my tastes. Finally, those in the USA should know that STAX sucks balls in terms of warranty and customer service. There is basically one idiot who lives in SoCal who services STAX, and if he can find a reason to say it's not covered by warranty, he will.
