I just got my Pinnacle Px last week. Do I need to pair my X5iii with an Amp to get the best out of the Px? I feel a bit underwhelmed by the Px's sound compared to my Fiio EX1ii currently. I am quite new to this portable hifi field. My first puchases were the Fiio X5iii DAP and Fiio EX1ii IEM back in April this year. The Px is my second proper IEM purchase. I've had exactly 1 week of listening/testing with my new Px now. The thing is, after months of being used to the EX1ii, I was (still am after a week) a bit disappointed by the Px's sound. For instance, the Px sounds slightly "muted or muffled" compared to the EX1ii. I know the EX1ii has a wide sound stage and depth (which I think is because of the vents). But the Px disappointingly sounds just stereo to me. To my as yet untrained ears, the EX1ii seems to better in every sense, Bass, Treble, Mids, Soundstage, Instrument Separation, etc. The original EX1 is a rebranded Dunu Titan 1. I don't know how similar the EX1ii (USD69) is to the EX1 (USD75), but the Titan 1 seems to be generally accepted as a decent product over at Head-Fi. The P1 on the other hand seems to be rated sonically much higher than the Titan 1 at Head Fi. That's why I'm confused now. Am I missing something here? I don't think there's anything wrong with my Px. The two IEMs I have mentioned are just very different sounding to my ears. The Px doesn't sound bad, its just different, with the EX1ii sounding a bit "better" to my ears. Maybe I need to amp the Px to get full benefits. I dont have a decent amp to test it with.... I am using the standard Px cable that came with the unit, the one with the mic. Any Opinions or Advice?

NaiduI use them with my X5 iii on high gain and they sound great. I use them with the X5 and my x12 amp and they sound even better. In other words, amping does add to the detail and clarity but if you want to run light then the X5 should be more than enough. Just play with your settings.

JesseDYoungThanks for the advice. I was planning to get a Chord Mojo one day... Soon I suppose, once I feel less of a buyer's remorse after blowing my tax refunds.

JesseDYoungJust to update, I got myself a Topping NX5 headphone amp. Connected my X5iii and Px through it.... And I experienced magic! The amp doesn't do much for my EX1ii, but the Px on the other hand sounds insanely good through it.
