Thinking out loud here... Question: I’m curious if these are more likely to sound like the comparably priced Meze 99 Neo ($199.99) or the Meze 99 Classic ($309.99)? I’ve been able to briefly try the Classic and I quite liked them. The $110 difference is significant for me at this time and I can’t afford to second guess once I’ve committed. What I’ve read is the Classics have more refined (less boomy) bass and more articulation in the mids than the Neo. About my listening: I tend to listen to acoustic music (ranging from trebly Leo Kottke 12-string guitar to late Leonard Cohen’s deep, breathy and detailed voice) but my tastes range well outside that range (old jazz, modern scores, alternative, etc.). I’m more sensitive to the detail than anything else but like a slightly warm sound but not boomy. Current gear and usage: I’m currently mostly using V-Moda XS. I may or may not add a Dragonfly Black to the chain but loathe Apple’s dongle hell. While at home I listen to lossless files on my PSB speakers, headphones are mainly 256kbps aac files on my iPhone in places with enough ambient noise that the sound will be compromised by default. I don’t like noise cancelling and want closed ear (so I’m not “that guy” annoying everyone around me). I test drove Bose QC 35ii. They were... fine. Like Olive Garden; obviously Italian and all the breadsticks you can eat to distract you from the fact it isn’t Italian. Since on occasion these will be listened to in quiet places I’d like something better. What else I’m considering: Bowers & Wilkins PX or P5 (I like the idea of Bluetooth as an option when I’m afraid to lose my dongle/Dragonfly) and V-Moda Crossfade II.

Pierre111Good point. I should have stated I was curious to see if others who’ve known about this longer might have mire insight. The beauty of community is to offer mire than the boilerplate produce description for folks who might hope for a bit more before jumping into a first time purchase like this.

" i have both the noirs and the neos, and can confirm the above is true, to my ears. as much as i enjoyed the neos, they probably wont get much playtime now that i have the noirs.
