Well Balanced & Pocket Friendly

Designed by renowned spinning top maker, Mitch Lum, the Massdrop x Mitch Lum Precision EDC Top is the perfect balance between performance and aesthetics. Crafted with a brass body, the bell-shaped top delivers spin times of up to 8 minutes or more with a good surface and some practice. At its core is a piece of solid 7075 aluminum, which is stronger and harder than the 6061 variety found in many other tops. The result is minimized bearing setback over time, great for those who like drop spins. For grip, the top is cut with Lum’s signature style, the GunnerGrip—a term that was originally coined by knifemaker Rob Simonich. To get you started, we're throwing in a concave glass spinning base, too.

Thoughtfully Designed

Simply put, balance and weight distribution are the keys to long spin times. That’s why this one features a bell-shaped two-piece design, creating a low center of gravity for optimum balance. The GunnerGrip is machined with shallow dimples covering the stem. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, the dimples make it easy to grasp the stem for power behind each spin, even with sweaty or dirty hands. The hard ceramic bearing resists corrosion and extends the top’s longevity. Because it’s harder than steel, ceramic will not deform nearly as quickly, preserving the contact point of the top.

About Mitch Lum

Some call him a pioneer in the top community. Others call him a modest guy who's very handy with a lathe. Whatever you prefer, Mitch Lum has made a big impact ever since he sprung onto the scene in 2014, at the beginning of the spinning top craze. An avid knife collector since 1999, Lum naturally gravitated toward the world of tops—and it doesn’t hurt that he’s earned a Ph.D in electrical engineering, either. Since 2014, Lum has crafted over 250 spinning tops, preferring to work in Timascus™. His intricate designs have garnered him a considerable following in the Pocket Top Group on Facebook: so large that he actually started the first annual Top Con in 2016, which he will be hosting again this year in Atlanta (and Massdrop is proudly sponsoring).
