The skirt sits very low to my liking. I usually avoid tops with low sitting skirts as they are notoriously difficult to spin. In a pinch you need a precision positioning on the spinning surface and I'm not often that focused when in a mood for spins.
brainwaveIt's got about 0.100" clearance from the tip of the bearing to the edge of the skirt (as you call it). It looks like a low rider, but I actually designed it to ride relatively high to make an easy top for new spinners and casual spinning. Most of my customs sit at about 0.070". If I may compare it is however lower than the Janus (0.190") or Fellhoelter (0.170") tops I have.
What tops do you have that you prefer and what's their ride height?

mitchlumMitch, thanks for you reply! It's great when vendors come here on MD to discuss products and to answer the questions. My favorite is Yakima Hop from NW Tops because of its unusual design, compact size and the ease of spin, but it's not in a sense a "traditional" top. From traditional designs I best like Prometheus Lambda and Vorso MK1 for tabletop spins and C.D. Peterson 5/8 Pocket top for EDC because of its small size and exemplary handmade American craftsmanship. I had C.D. Peterson 3/4 top and gave it to friend b/c it had a low sitting skirt and proportions that made it difficult to spin anywhere except on a perfect flat surface.
brainwaveHi Brainwave - I try not think of myself as a "vendor" but one of us - a knife, gun, edc enthusiast who happens to make things to support my hobbies. But anyway - I spin all my tops on either a 75mm 20cm focal length lens or a Dean Chou / AllThingsSpinning K9 glass. I actually don't ever spin on a perfectly flat surface and have no issues, although I've been playing with these things for 3 years. It may take a little practice, but I'm sure you could spin your CD Peterson 5/8" in a lens with some practice. Hope you give mine a shot as I've designed it to give the widest possible appeal, but I know everyone has their own preferences and I can totally respect that.

mitchlumMitch, since I'm a total top n00b, and you got me "casually hooked", I would say that you reached your design objective perfectly! 👍🏻
