TLDR; The $40 Lum designed top is worth the money and offers great value for price.
Last week I had the pleasure of taking my turn with what I'll call the travelling top. I ended up placing my order for the Lum X Massdrop top the day before I received this since the drop was ending, and after playing with this thing, I can say that I made a good decision to purchase one.
Allow me to preface this by saying that I have never spent more that $50 on a top due to the time in my life I discovered the top world. I do own one fine example of Mitch's work that I acquired through his three year anniversary giveaway and that thing is spun ten hours a day, every day that I work.
The point of all of that is to say that this was a top I was excited about because I've handled Mitch's work but I know that I usually can't afford it for now. This top gave me the opportunity to own another great piece of his work at an affordable price.
ANYWAYS- I put this collab top through it's paces through a couple of days of spinner and a small photoshoot. When I received the top it already had a few nics in it from previous people who had handled it, so that might have affected spin quality a bit. That being said, the top has a great, solid launch and settles quickly. While it still moves around, it seems to float on the lens with how low the top. Once settled, the top spins smooth until about the six minute mark at which point some stem flutter becomes noticeable. At about the eight minute mark the top becomes more unstable until it spins out at roughly the ten minute mark.
The timed spins on this top came out to roughly 9 minutes, ten minutes, and eleven minutes. Of course these times will vary based on experience and spin surface.
Overall I am happy to have made the decision to pick one of these up on Massdrop while I could and it will make an excellent addition to my ever-growing brass collection. I'm not sure if there will be a way for you to pick one up in the future since the Massdrop is closed, but if you get the chance to, I would 100% recommend this for a budget addition to your collection with excellent value for price from a renowned maker.
At this point I feel I should include the fact that I was not paid to say these things and I paid full price on Massdrop.
