Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. Because each row has a unique keycap shape, alt layouts require a unique keycap for each legend that moves off its QWERTY row. * Betas * Basic Text Modifiers Betas * ISO Enter Betas * Norde Kit Betas
This would be an instant buy from my part for my WASD v2 TKL. If Norde kit got available in betas I could maybe go for the icon modifiers instead (since ISO enters include one), but I prefer text. I also don't get why the base kit includes some numpad keys, they are no use to TKL or less layouts so why include them in the base kit instead of as a separate kit?
A huge plus would be to also include a Torvalds/Stallman kit for Linux users (as I mentioned in a previous comment) with "super" as text option (alphas and betas) as well as stallman beard/gnu/tux icon key.
The compability map that WASD v2 has seems to show I should be ok. For the curious I've added the link below to view it, where they also show different bottom row layouts that may be interesting to the people using non-standard bottom row layouts (keep in mind they show it as "compitable with their keycaps and keyboards" so don't mind the coloring if you don't own a WASD keyboard): http://support.wasdkeyboards.com/customer/portal/articles/1366948-keycap-compatibility
Given that we will be experiencing product from a relative newcomer (Chinese XDA producer, not MiTo) and given they've been quite prolific recently, I think it's reasonable to ask for another drop for some additional child kits.
Hopefully more buyers will agree.
Love the kit, but am just a bigger fan of the betas and since I don't want to join the drop twice (once for full alphas and once for full betas), I'll just wait til' they have a drop including all kits with betas.
