I hope you appreciate this drop and that the keycaps exceed all of your expectations.
MiToMiTo is literally the best. He answers so many questions on the discussion page. True passion. expect for the fact I don't get my original overcast colors but I'll complain about that forever
MiToI know it's not the subject, I'm a total noob and it's probably a bother, but, is there any chance you'd be able to let me know the spacebar size from Gaijin (or) Hiragana in the upcoming Laser set? just trying to find out if I'll be needing to buy the spacebar set as well as finances are tight, many thanks.
punkonjunkI don't see that happening Punk.. sure there are a minority of people that prefer else where.. but honestly Massdrop gets 10-20x's the exposure of other places. I watching another keycap drop thats been active for 10 day's and is struggling to meet MOQ. Its like 25% there and the drops going till Nov 6. Its being produced by another famous cap creator. I just don't think its as viable. Also Unless its going thought some sort of established store front I would completely pass. The more I think about it. The more I feel like going with group buy's organized by the community is to risky. I don't think people do things on purpose just Real Life Happens.
schoolbusAlso I don't get where people come from with Massdrop has crappy support. I Just had to contact support cause I was affected by missing switches. I contacted them Friday.. The issue is resolved today. They don't work weekends say's so on there website. 2 day's for a resolution isn't bad at all. That's not the only thing the resolution was completely satisfactory and exactly what I wanted.
This leaves me questioning people. Perhaps one of the following is what causes them to get lack luster support
Expectations: Perhaps in today's right now world they expect 24-7 customer service on the drop of a dime.
Communication: This is something I am seeing more and more of. Peoples lack of ability to communicate with others. Perhaps its all the texting people do but people seem to have issues sometimes conveying what they desire.
I am not saying Massdrop is perfect just my experiences so far... are a 180 from the massdrop hate some people seem to have. Then that brings on another question. How much of Massdrop's hate is legit and how much is it people wanting to fit in and be a part of something. The desire to be part of something can be very strong and in today's age of lighting fast technology and messaging. Its easy to feel pressured if you don't go with the popular opinion in a given circle you might run in.
HotRoderXWhat you have to realize is a lot of the people and loud voices who spread Massdrop hate also run their own keybord shop/website. It’s not hard to figure out the rest.
MiToHi MiTo! Cant help but compare the set with laser and realise that the colours are perhaps the same tone? Am still patiently holding out for your laser set and oogling at your instagram renders; any idea when that will pop out?
Thanks for making such awesome caps!

MiToAre there a set number of each kit? And if so how can we find out the remaining quantity of each kit? Thanks in advance :)
LuvPelikanAlphas of your preference

TKL Mods of your preference

Extra Mods of your preference
By “your preference“ I mean that you should pick between Solace and Rush (blue or pink).
MiToI think they're referring to how you can only get the 1-0 for #pad w/ the alphas while the numberpad mods are a set all their own. I too wish I could just get the full numberpad w/o alpha's forced... :/
KM1337That's one of many I'm trying to wrap my head around. My other is why have a 1.25u shift and 1.75u control key? I can see a 1.75u shift key for various 60% and 75% that have arrow keys but can't think of all that many more common boards that have a 1.75u control key. So now you're looking at getting the "extras" for potentially one key, or I end up putting CTRL in place of my right shift key.
Then there's novelties that include a blue enter + esc/rekt, then a green and orange option, but no pink? What if I wanted to do solace mods with pink enter/esc? I'd have to buy an entire rush mods just to do that, which seems silly itself. I could use the megaphone for a 1.75u shift, but there's no pink option as well if you're going with a rush scheme.
Then nobody seems to really care about 5.5u space bars either that's on my Choc Mini.
HerpDerpenbergYeah... It's rough, I mean, I can kinda understand some of the kit choices, but then other look like they're just blatantly doing it so that you HAVE to buy additional kits that you wouldn't otherwise even look at if you didnt need the one or two keys... I've removed and re-added a full legacy set multiple times to my cart just because I am having a hard time dropping all the $$ that I have to drop to cover my keeb... but I guess that's part of the custom set lyfe?
KM1337Yeah, it's not really the custom set life style, but it's from going against the most common keyboard layouts. These sets are really aimed at 60%, TKL, Full sized first, with the odd exception of including numpad keys. But there are definitly others like the TADA68, Magicforce82 that are very popular and have had recent drops and get shafted on basic support. I've got a Choc Mini and got the prior MagicForce82 GB only because I was tired of zero support for the 5.5u spacebar on the Choc Mini.
I keep trying to adjust things, but I always seem to need 1 or 2 keys and another $30-$40. With this kit, I need to get base + mods + TKL + extra to cover my keyboard 100%. I could replace the extras with novelties to save a few bucks as I only need the 1.75u megaphone for shift, could use 1u pulse novelties on ctrl/fn/alt. It's so close to just using the 0-9 on the numpad for F1-F10, then 2x1u novelties for F11-F12 but then I'm missing arrow keys and my del/home/pgup/pgdn keys as I can use the trash can for DEL.
The numpad included in alphas is a whole other thing. Most people who are dumping cash on mech keys have forgone numberpads for TKL or a 75% or less that has a numpad function layer.
I'm still torn on if I want in on this with GMK Laser around the corner as well. I liked GMK Laser at first, but now that I'm looking at these colors I feel GMK Laser is just too... purple... if you know what I mean? I love the novelties of GMK though, but having a cherry profile changes any bit to mix with these.
MiToAs KM1337 explained below; it would be awesome if we could get the number keys for the numpad separately from the alphas. Thanks for all your work.
HerpDerpenbergI agree with you. I was thinking about just the same thing. If only the alpha could've included that one shift. Though, it seems as if I'm just going to buy all the four kits..
consolation@HerpDerpenberg@consolation@KM1337@BlueCrowned Important thing you guys perhaps didn't notice is that we have 3 different color options for Alphas and 2 different colors for Modifiers. Therefore, we have 6 possible combinations for the Numpads. How could I possibly offer 6 different standalone Numpad Kits, in order to please everyone, and make these 6 kits reach a MOQ? Since some people will want blue alphas and purple mods, other will want all cyan, etc.? I didn't want to force anyone to go with a particular scheme (although I did that for Euro users) because once again I'm giving options, I want you to be free to come up with your own colorschemes yourselves (past drops reflect this). If you wanna go clown mode and have purple alphas, cyan/pink mods, black numpad, that's possible. It's up to you, this is a custom product so you might as well make it your own. So this was the most efficient logic I managed to invent, if you guys have a better idea please let me know - but sadly the developing phase is long gone at this point.
Another thing worth mentioning is that everyone actually have an option to use a mono-legends number row. It's a clever catch if you think about it, but not ideal I admit. From what I've seen after all these years people sort of enjoy this look. Give it a try once you receive the kits, it does look unique. I know that not everyone like this and some would rather have a -$8 or so discount in the Alphas kits (if I excluded these keycaps) but then again, I wouldn't like to force anyone to go with a particular scheme. It's a shame euro users never show up though, VAT, lack of a proxy/MD euro warehouse and all that jazz make things very difficult for them. Therefore I was forced to force them the Pulse scheme (and sadly that only).
MiToI can only imagine the kind of time and planning it must have taken to create a drop for essentially 2 separate keycap sets simultaneously. Ultimately, however it's been put together, it worked because I'm in for at least a few pieces of the pie. Happy to support set and creator making awesome stuff like Legacy. Still trying to patiently wait for Laser to come around as well.
KM1337Thank you very much for the kind words, to be honest with you it took me years to come up with a viable way to offer multi colored projects.
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/elemento-pbt-dcs-keycap-set
This was our first attempt and we failed miserably, after less than a week we terminated the drop. Just look at how incredibly insane some things were, horrible International kit, just a mess. Offering multi color keycap sets was always very challenging.
We've been fine tuning this logic ever since and the first time we succeeded was the DSA R1 (Sci-Fi) , then Pulse R2 with the blue alphas, Overcast with over 5 different colors, Godspeed SA with the Lunar Alphas (and eventually a Cockpit kit) and then Godspeed XDA which was the most complex so far. That one was pretty difficult to crack because of the triple alphas and double mods, which is what you're seeing here but more stream lined. The Canvas project borrowed elements from this logic as well, but not that much.
Thanks a lot for all the support and enthusiasm, I received your e-mail and once the time comes I'll be featuring your picture in social media, be sure!
MiToBut you still didn't read my complaint. Adding the numpad wasn't for options, it's for unnecessary keys for people who don't need it.
My issue is giving an odd 1.75u control and 1.25 shift but no 1.75u shift, which is more common? Lack of purple mods in novelty set as well would have been nice and minimal effort.
MiToHAH, Sweet. :D Thx!
TBH Hadn't even seen the elemento set, cool set. Looking at that one, it definitely shows changes made over the course of the sets compared to what we have here. And it'll only get better and more dangerous for our wallets, I am sure. ;)
MiToNew to mechanical keyboards and first time in a group buy, so sorry if this has already been asked but.. How long does it typically take to ship once the drop ends?
Regardless, I'm so excited to get this keycap set and can't wait to use it on my new keeb!
brendintoshthe date is Estimated ship date is Apr 25, 2018PT. but keep in mind keycap's can be delayed by several months. The est is only a estimate. I would expect no later then July/aug... at the latest to set expectations in a worse case.
HotRoderXYa I totally understand that there's always hiccups during production or shipping on any scale. I just ordered a GMMK 87-key and was wondering if I should order a keycap set in the mean time. Thanks for the help!
brendintoshThe shipping date is a worst case scenario, we hope not to face any delays in this project (unless something negative happens with the manufacturer).
MiTo" Another thing worth mentioning is that everyone actually have an option to use a mono-legends number row. It's a clever catch if you think about it, but not ideal I admit "
MiTo, I've looked everywhere for mono legends in this drop and can't find them; this was my original plan as with DSA they would be perfectly fine for a numpad (+ a 2u blank, that's always handy anyway). I don't think you need to offer EVERY option, for those of us who are just looking at numpads, just AN option. You would use keys that are already being made, so there's no extra design or prep work, bar designating a keypad numerals kit. I think that there are more of us than you'd expect, all the people with Alps or Topre based keyboards, who use a cherry numpad - for example.
I'm a big fan of your work, and realise it's a bit late in the drop to be adding kits, but I think lumping numpad numerals with the alphas is a poor choice; one that's becoming something of a pattern on MD lately.
PS. If I'm being blind and there is a mono kit, could someone please point me at it?
MiToHey MiTo, quick question. I have a 65% and it appears that the only arrow-keys are in the tkl kit. Is there any way to get arrows in a non-standard kit? Or do i have to buy tkl just for those 4 keys?
Many thanks!
MiToMassdrop, will you please change all the Drop 1 Quantities to 1 so it is clear there are no MOQs in this drop (as MiTo added at the top of his pinned post)? The quantities listed in your current spreadsheet serve no purpose to those placing orders, they are only confusing a lot of members. And only a subset of people read the discussions.
MiToAre the blank 2.25u keys only available with the 40% kits? 2.25 is a popular size for split spacebar but I don't want to buy the whole kit for just that key...
What other 2.25 u keys are included in other kits?
ChitownM2> Are the blank 2.25u keys only available with the 40% kits?
Yes.
> What other 2.25 u keys are included in other kits?
There are various, Extra Mods, Novelties, 40s, you can look at the renders and verify - the keycap sizes get progressively bigger.
sfcgeorgeA major contributor to order numbers for some kits today could be the Proxy orders, which typically come in the last hour before close. Still, there may be big member order number increases today for many kits, too.
Take Oblotzky's SA Oblivion drop that ended on 9/21 as an example. Massdrop made two updates on the last day: one very early in the morning, the second with 11 hours remaining. Neither update included the Proxy orders, which I understand were placed during the last hour. Oblotzky had shared the progress of the Proxy orders on two prior occasions in the last week of that drop, and YanboWu shared the final numbers 13 days after the drop ended; thank you @Oblotzky and @YanboWu! Below is the history of that drop to give you some idea. How similar @MiTo
bubbachuck76The proxy orders are typically placed by Asian websites that are also selling the kits. They have been taking orders from their own customers, and place one huge order to Massdrop after their sales end and just before Massdrop's group buy ends. It seems to me that other foreign countries could do this as well, and perhaps some do. I have no details.
Phishead92It is strongly recomended that you cancel your order and place it again. Some people tend to get errors while changing things from their orders. Better safe than sorry.
Phishead92Oh, my bad I thought you were a Laser GMK drop participant, got notified by two different people at the exact moment... My apologies for this stupid confusion my friend. Regarding your issue, I'm afraid nothing can be done at this point, orders can't exactly change after the buy closes because the purchase order was already placed within the manufacturer. Right now your best bet is either living with the kit your ordered or trade with someone either here or on /r/MechMarket once the kits start shipping. I hope you understand mate, this is why we recommend that people review their orders before the deadline...
MiToDang. Okay I'll just wait for that as well. I am getting the Laser GMK set as well but the Rush alphas from legacy look almost exactly the same as the alphas from Laser
MiToYeah, but I am wondering if I can cancel my Legacy order to have enough money to buy laser. It's a lot cheaper for me to buy Laser, and then I have a ton of options for layouts!
ibibassMy understanding is no one can cancel or change their order once the drop ends. But once you receive it, you can list your kits for sale on reddit.com/r/mechmarket and make your money back. Actually, you could probably make a profit...
