sevenseacatnothing yet for me, was hoping to get it this week but with thanksgiving shipping delays im thinkin earliest itll be delivered is next week haha
edit: just adding that the reason im worried bout thanksgiving delays is with UPS/Fedex getting swamped around black friday/cyber monday it usually translates to delays into the first week of December which would be pretty damn frustrating to watch happen
kamehouseAlmost halfway through shipping, the warehouse has this drop prioritized, yay! There haven't been any backorders (missing keyboards, components, etc) and although the warehouse has been a bit overloaded this week, shipments have been going out at normal pace for us. If a particular participant haven't gotten his/hers shipping notification he/she will receive it shortly - those are the latest news I have.
sevenseacatfinally had tracking info update now (massdrop said it "shipped" yesterday)
expected delivery date is november 30th
sounds about right
2 weeks to mail something from 1 end of the country to the other
real glad massdrop uses fedex smart post (literally the worst option possible, cheapest USPS shipping would have been faster)
on the bright side have literally 0 intentions of ever buying something from massdrop again, hopefully your stuff isn't available on md only in the future mito :)
StanLeeStanleyThey don't appear to only use fedex, as mine is via dhl. I am pretty excited about getting my keyboard, but in the end of the day it is just a thing, and it will get here when it gets here. I would love to not pay VAT on import fees and have to wait an extra week, but that's just life.
You don't really know the full decision chain for the logistics of md, so if you don't find it satisfying, just don't buy on here again. In some cases it's the only way to not deal with the bureaucracy of intl shipments, multiple carriers, logistics for packaging and delivery and shipping, etc. In some cases, you either can go thru md or not at all.
takuya813I just received an email informing me that I owe £54.60 in import fees and customs entry. To top that off, it also says that the delivery will now be carried out the rest of the way via YODEL, who are one of the worst delivery companies in the UK.
I guess I might buy from MD again - but only if I'm prepared to pay a large premium... In this instance, I feel it's worth it as this is the keyboard of my dreams :)
rhysmThe keyboard is pretty amazing!
You think it's bad? GMK keys are manufactured in Germany and then shipped to MD in the US and then back to Germany where I pay the Federal Zoll authorities 17,5% import duty.
But until something is set up in the EU, this is the only choice we have. And anyway, resalers aren't required to include VAT or customs fees. Just factor it in always, and it's not MD's fault. If you can blow 200 quid on a keyboard, you can pay the 50 for import ;p
takuya813If I’m honest, I’m a little put off by your last sentence... I didn’t ‘blow’ 200 quid... I thought about what I wanted for months, and when I found this I was prepared to pay what I thought was the full price.
I’m not blaming MD for anything, and I’m not saying I’ll never use MD again. I am simply saying that it was a surprise, and that I consider it to be the premium required if I purchase on here again.
This is the first mechanical keyboard I own, and I’m delighted with it - that doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to be surprised by the cost of something I wasn’t aware of.
rhysmI'm really not trying to be an ass--
if you buy a premium device from outside the EU, you are almost guaranteed to pay import duty on it. This is just a fact. It's not a massdrop thing-- few resellers include customs charges for you. To be fair, I really would love an EU-based community for mechkeys and other such things as it would be way cheaper!
I'm not saying `blow' in a bad way, but it's a keyboard. I use a Planck with GMK Laser every day and I am quite evangelical about mechkeys. I love the board and how it works for me and the aesthetic too. That doesn't mean it's not a luxury ;)
Enjoy the board, you will spend money on many more (also with import duty :) )
takuya813I'm now having major problems with my delivery... Just as I thought I would. YODEL, possibly the worst delivery company in the UK are now claiming that the address on my package is not the full address required to complete the delivery.
This is exactly what I was afraid of. Now my keyboard is being held hostage by the YODEL... This is going to be interesting.
rhysmI commiserate with you... all the german providers are pretty crap. It's a roulette wheel of "is it stuck in customs" or "they take the money at your door for the import" or "we don't know where it is"
