Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. Because each row has a unique keycap shape, alt layouts require a unique keycap for each legend that moves off its QWERTY row. - God MT3 Alphas x Dev MT3 Alphas ($50 x $50)
Dev comes with more keycaps but God has Latin, Runes, Japanese and Russian. God has 4 total options so you can create your keyset as you want (God has 4 Alphas x 4 Mods = 16 different looks right off the bat without even adding any novelties, no other keycap set design comes close to this), this came with a justifiable, in my opinion, fee;- God MT3 Mods x Dev MT3 Mods + Extras - $60 x$76
Dev price is much worse than God because you have to buy two kits to achieve the same compatibility. If you compare the Mod kits only ($60 x $46), God is $14 more expensive and it has 18 more useful keycaps than Dev. This comparison can be done on many of the child kits, God kits have more compatibility and overall more usability. The more unities are sold, the more the prices will normalize. I won't compare with Godspeed XDA because it's a completely different product and project, like comparing apple to oranges. Other than the name and plastic substance used everything else is different.
