Just installed mine and they look good. But, I wish I had not bothered paying almost $20 for the alternative probe keys as I can neither feel nor see (even with a magnifying glass) any difference whatsoever between them and the normal keys. I certainly can't put my fingers in the right place on the keyboard just by touch, so at an effective $9.50 per used key, it was not good value.

gafferYes, I'm convinced that the Probe Dishes set was a factory mistake. They even sent replacement sets to some users (just got mine the other day), and the replacements are no different. :( Reach out to customer support, and encourage them to have the factory redo the set if possible. I'm really hoping they'll be able to deliver, since it was a factory error - Mito said they placed the order properly.
I think MD is still in denial that there is an issue straight across the board - I don't think one person has gotten an actual dished Probe Dish set.

aikilinkThanks for that - I will at least inform MD and see if it goes anywhere.

Just to be clear, here's an original dished homing key from the alpha set (J) and the original H with the dished home H. Which is which? I can't tell any more, I really don't know, as far as I can see they are identical.

aikilinkJust to confirm, I have sent the query, with the photo below, to customer support - will report on the outcome.

gafferThat's actually one of the best photos I've seen of the issue!
The only way I can tell the Probe set apart from the regular ones is that the Probe set's printing is more blurry... :P

gafferAny news on this? I just got the normal alphas, but can't tell the difference between the scoped f and j and the normal ones. And if there is a difference it's too subtle.

mackenI got a reply from MD about 2 weeks ago saying that others had reported the issue and the manufacturers will do something about it. I think that probably only refers to the alternative home keys kit though: the home keys included in my alpha set do have some dishing, it's just that it's pretty subtle. I've used keyboards in the past that have a dished style like these but with a much more obvious dishing of the home keys (not sure which now, maybe older Sun kbds) but I don't think these will be like this even if they do re-manufacture the homing set.

For completeness, here's a photo of the new home keycaps, just received. In case you can't tell, it's the one on the right! (What looks like a crack in the RH corner is just a bit of dust). It is more dished than the old one, but I have to say that it's subtle. I might get used to it but my fingers don't exactly zero in on the keys - I can feel the dishing but I have to think about it. Can't complain as Massdrop did replace them, but still don't think I'd have paid $20 extra for them.

gafferGuess this means that the replacement keycaps for the international kit is on it's way too.

mackenI got a separate package a few days ago with a few extra icon keys in it (not sure why) so presumably all the replacements are on their way. Good luck!
