This was my first Massdrop purchase. I've spent just shy of $2K since, on two additional drops. Massdrop, this experience will inform my future purchases here. Sorry, but an experience like this cannot be ignored or discounted.
I'm a Noble 4C owner. In other words, I like what Noble does.
I've been patient and have held off posting, expecting Noble to, at the very least, offer something to those that joined the drop, and especially those in the early round, before the add on. Or to come through with resolving their issues with much greater speed and an earlier than the anticipated 'delayed' shipping date, and to expedite this at their cost. Unfortunately, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from Noble or Massdrop.
Too many apologists in this thread. And for what? Noble itself offered a holiday deal that included a discount and an extra set of IEMs for not much more than the going price here (factoring in the discounted price of the extra set). Further, there are many good, and some great, alternatives to Noble.
And yes, some of us did order this as a gift. With a December 11 estimated ship date, even a slight delay would have been okay in terms of delivering a product that was a gift for some, by the Holidays. For the majority this was likely a gift to themselves and a nice way to usher in the Holidays, right?
A two month lead time to deliver, followed by an over seven week delay, effectively doubling the time from purchase, is unacceptable. There has been no real ownership of / nor accountability for this.
Frankly, I'm more disappointed in Massdrop for not "having their customers' backs" as a priority, at least with this drop. Massdrop, you need to have mechanisms in place to punish, YES PUNISH, suppliers for non delivery on their commitments, RATHER than buyers....which is what is happening here.
Awaiting your 1/15 group email update, though based on the 1/12 post it looks like nothing has changed,....well, other than my desire to cancel immediately vs waiting on an update that might contain some remedies for your purchasing community. Massdrop, are you going to deliver for your buying community?
Apparently nothing has changed and AveryC's post seems to say it was updated on 1/12 instead of 1/15 with next update on 1/29.
I very much agree with everything you have said. As one who has also made a number of expensive Massdrop purchases, I can say with certainty that this makes me hesitant to join drops (especially first time drops) in the future. This drop has been mismanaged by both the Massdrop and Noble. Massdrop's communication (An issue I have noticed on other drops too unless it suits their immediate purposes) has lacked transparency with handling the incident such as the initial comments amounting to nearly lies about "wrapping up production" on 12/6 - not having critical components is not wrapping up production but stalled production. Furthermore subsequent updates were non-updates ("on-track" is vague and means little) and lacked transparency. The 1/12 update does not address the fact that they are no longer partial shipping or meeting (or apologizing for not meeting) the claims of previous updates.
As for Noble, supply chain mismanagement is supply chain mismanagement. The estimates should have been better planned before the drop or at the very least for the sake of transparency (it sounds like the issues like flooding would have been known in November or earlier) updated much earlier if December if 12/11 was never a realistic ship date. While I would imagine the fires caused (understandable force majeure) delays, I am skeptical of the impact if there weren't drivers to complete the products anyway.
Edit: With respect to Massdrop/Noble not doing anything to expedite the process like at least absorbing the cost of faster shipping, the other annoying part is that they are fully expecting more drops for which I would expect a vastly shorter drop time at the same price. (Especially shorter for the first given all the partially produced IEMs with all those that have cancelled on this drop.) This just further devalues joining first time drops like this one.
Well stated and put, @npc2
"While I would imagine the fires caused (understandable force majeure) delays, I am skeptical of the impact if there weren't drivers to complete the products anyway."
To your quoted words above, I am in agreement and I'll add that California has been experiencing some devastating events, of late. I personally know someone who lost their entire home and property to the fire. My heart goes out to those who have suffered and those impacted more recently with the mudslides in and around Montecito.
To the topic on hand, this was purely cover for mismanagement elsewhere. And it really, really bothers me when a company or person uses a tragedy to garner false sympathy. Did it disrupt their normal operations: YES! it probably did and Noble and their employees have my sympathy for that. Did it disrupt their Drop, NO!

Agreed! There is no downside for Noble or Massdrop (should Noble decide to go forward with additional drops). Those who made an early choice and put their money up for this are the ones losing out. There are enough folks, who missed the drop and are waiting for the next one....who will benefit. Even if Noble doesn't go forward with another Drop they can unload these units in another market/region or marketplace.
"As for Noble, supply chain mismanagement is supply chain mismanagement." Agreed, as well. Noble has been operating in China long enough to know. Problems do occur...How they are responded to and communicated is illustrative. In this case, how this Drop has been handled earns a fail.
i mean, i'll take them off if you want :)
