In a bit of a dilemma here. Most expensive iems I have are the Westone 30, (also bought at Massdrop) and they are already pretty good. Are these "TOTL" iems truly a big step up from ~$300 iems from well regarded brands, like Westone?

HamseyThe k10 has 30 consecutive 5 star reviews on head fi. That has not been done before or since. If anything the westone 30 could serve as a nice edc/sport iem while the k10 rests on a pedestal at the house.

HefeHeadfi is a giant circle-you-know-what, where decibal matched blind tests are banned and where empirical data will also get you perma-banned if it means you might make headfi's sponsors suffer by doing so. But really, even the best IEM custom even, isn't worth paying more than 300 dollars over. Subjectivity aside it's almost borderline insane. The headroom on an IEM will never compare, over 300 is a meme.

koblongataIems cause me pain because my left ear was ruptured. I sparingly use a pair called the philips tx2, they're like 30 bucks otherwise I use some vintage earbuds, used to own westone um-p 3. I've demo'd 64's best and the shure 846, I know there is better but, difference wasn't worth it not even close. Right now I've been using the Monoprice Retro as an over-ear and they cost 18 dollars, 23 dollars shipped to my door. I put dampening in the housing and modded it to have a detachable cable for the cost of approximately 2 dollars. I'm enjoying it a lot more than my Ether Flow C's I happened to sell off and have used it almost exclusively for 2 weeks. It stomps on the 598cs, easily. I know that isn't IEM talk, but detail isn't everything or worth it, always. I just happen to enjoy the music when it sounds good, not when it costs the most. IEMs hit the wall much quicker than headphones do. Personally my favorite headphone I've heard is the Amiron, unrelated but I can't not mention that gem.

UzuzuHm, I think the source might be the issue here, I can stand mediocre headphones with a good source, but not otherwise... The better the sound transducer the more faithful it is at transferring electrical signal into mechanical... for better or worse...

UzuzuOr maybe it's your anatomy. Personally, IEMs work better for my ear canals and hearing as I have mild tinnitus. Over ears don't give me the same comfort or enjoyment from listening let alone the quality. Despite owning and listening to a lot of nice over ears, I would still reach for a TOTL IEM, every time. Just like a good home theater system, headphones and earphones are all different enough to chase the higher end stuff. It's unfortunate you may not enjoy or discern the difference but to state that anything over $300 is "burning money" is a bit much. Seems you just have a preference over what is subjectively better to you and there's nothing wrong with that.

HamseyUzuzu does what Uzuzu does... you get used to he/she/them after a while.
On your debate front... that would be a tough one. I haven't personally been able to hear any of their line but they certainly are interesting designs. I was a big dynamic driver guy for a while (most of my IEM's fall in that paradigm, a few exceptions) and wanted to go whole hog on the BA front. The nicest BA I've used in the past was the UE Triple-fi 10... still one hell of a good IEM for Rock music IMO.

Uzuzu is correct, though, apart from his heresy that ether flows compare with his no mame mid fi monstrosity over-ears.
The problem with iem's is space. You can only do so much with technology, in such a small format...And I preferred shure se535's, to the original k10's, at almost three times the latter's price, over the former's....
Having said that, there's a world of difference between shure se535's, and iem's around the $100 mark...

My SUBJECTIVE thoughts, I even said I genuinely prefer fun > detail which is a somewhat non-audiophile statement. It's up to everyone to make their own decisions on what they like when it comes to music. Again just because I can't justify 900 dollars to a 3d printed IEM doesn't mean I can't afford them. Other people may think it's worth it, whatever they can do what they want. Why does Bill Gates still frequent McDonalds when he has billions, and use coupons? Smart spending is important if you want to keep your equity. It's a fact all IEMs are limited in staging and that's super important to me in enjoying music and part of why I believe (subjective!) that they aren't worth their price tags, at least right now. Take your trolling elsewhere your cyberbullying isn't fooling anyone nor your strange stalking of my comments.

UzuzuThe katana, the Encore, the bell, the velvet, the luxe are all fully cnc.
The classic are partially cnc, none of the Noble line is 3d printed.
Fully cnc products might be appreciated by those that would rather have a housing built with more time and effort than an injected molded housing shot out of a machine at a rate of 300 units a minute.

HefeDoesn't really cause any price inflation relative to something 3d printed, however. The real point of conversation is the limited headroom in IEMs and their limited technology. Does noble offer any bleeding edge tech or does he just design good sounding units with "x" number of drivers. There's no doubt the noble line sounds good, it's just if the price is actually worth it's value. Of course that's subjective but I'm not the one who asked, it was the guy who asked if it'd be a huge step up from his westones. My answer is, not really because 900 dollars is a big investment and if it's obviously a lot of money to him, and it should be, than the ceiling when it comes to audio especially in IEM territory comes especially quick. Even if Andy here earns 6 digits and claims he's a better person because he earns more money.... he'd be a fool to just throw 900 dollars at something without doing research. Forgive the childish argument between him and myself though, it really doesn't belong here he gets angry when anyone talks about price worth or the "value" of things. *pssst* "I think he works for head-fi's Jude"

HamseyI don't think you'll experience day and night difference between 300$ westones and 1 million dollar gold plated special holy moly wackamoli in ear monitors. Tried many in-ears, if you want to notice a difference you should aim for larger driver headphones like open back over-ears.

Ringing in PC38X's

I recently got this headset, and wow is it good. My only issue is when certain people talk on discord, I can hear a really high pitched ringing. I fiddled with a bunch of settings, computer audio and discord, and nothing seems to solve the issue. It is primarily if not all in my right ear only. Is there something wrong with my headset, or was that ringing always there I can just hear it cause the headset is THAT good? I haven't had any issues with any other application, though I have yet to test if I can hear the ringing on a different version of discord, say on my xbox instead of my pc. Only other issue I've had is occasional static, but I can't tell if it's from the headset or the show/game/etc.

Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?

Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Recommendation for my next headphone set? I have Koss 95x

Hey all, What would you recommend I get next and why? I have Koss ESP-95x electrostatic massdrop headphones. These are my first and only audiophile set. I love them. I think my only real requirements is $500 or less for the headphones and that they have a little more low end. I don’t need thump but these are really light on lows…but the experience is still awesome. Also any recommendations on an amp? I only have my electrostatic thingy. Should I exchange the PC38X for better headphones?

I bought the PC38X headphones FOR GAMING and they are great, but I have NO use for a Microphone since I don't do competitive gaming and I was wondering if there were better headphone options at a similar price without a headphone, where (presumably) more of the cost was put into making it sound better. I also find that my PC38X don't get quite as loud as I would like and I was wondering if a cheap amp like the iFi Go link would draw a little more volume out of my phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN6MM822?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I went with the PC38X since it was considered the best bang for buck headphones.
