I bought the Massdrop X Noble K10 along with Campfire Andromeda and Solaris(I'm new to IEM). I've heard people saying that K10 have a very "safe" tuning compare to other IEMs, and that still holds true in my pairs of Noble K10. My first impression on these aren't great, to be honest, very underwhelming. I pair my IEMs with iPhone via lightning cables and Wooaudio WA8. First minute I tried these on I felt like these 10BA IEMs are not resolving at all. I decided to give them a 10 hour burn-in period. I switched to the lightning cable for the burn-in, and after the burn-in, I'm quite surprised how good they sound! When connected to the WA8, it has very good BA bass, maybe not as clean compare to Andromeda, but the rumble is present. Mid is quite good, it is a bit on the lean side but totally acceptable. Treble wise, I do occasionally get that sibilant sound, but overall it is not bad, it has some sparkle in it. The Massdrop X Noble K10s are well worth the price, and I feel that it fits my needs perfectly. Sound wise if I'm connecting it to my DAC/AMPs they don't sound as good as my Andromeda(and not even close to Solaris). However when only using a lightning cable, k10 sure does have the edge on how it scales. It is a great choice for those who don't want to carry extra pieces of gear such as DAP/DAC/AMP around and looking for beautiful sound straight out from that lightning cable. (Massdrop customer service is great as well, there was a tip missing from the package and they send me a partial refund so I can purchase another set of tips, good on them.)

LW707I shared the same initial feelings, as I thought they didn't sound better than my other IEMs/headphones. In my case I didn't have a lightening cable, but when I swapped out the default cable to their gold x silver cable, it really improved the clarity. Now when I listen to music I find myself always reaching for it over my IEMs. No matter the type of music, everything always sounds so musical - very balanced and fun.

AlbobearI think a better cable would definitely help with the transparency. In case of lightning cable, I think it is made for the Noble X not the K10 in the drop(In terms of quality it is comparable to the stock 3.5 come with the K10 which is not the best, but the IEM is already twice as cheap so I can't really complain.) The lightning cable has a tiny DAC/AMP built in, and it doesn’t sound terrible at all. Sure I would get better sound from a decent DAP or a DAC/AMP combo but consider it is only $50 and no extra piece of equipment. I have zero complaints.

LW707What about out of head imaging between K10 and your Solaris? Does singers still reside between the ears with both. Thanks for sharing!

BillyChiu.comIn my opinion K10 has decent instrumental accuracy. But to me in some classical tracks positioning of the instruments seems weird. With my headphones and other earphones the same tracks played have a feeling of horizontal spreading but K10 is more vertical. So I don’t think the positioning of K10 is on point. As for Solaris it really is an amazing earphone across all spectrum. Only downside of Solaris is that the thing is huge, may have some issues that regular earphones won’t have.

benjdbsWhen I tried them both with SE output on my SPKM gold, Andromeda sounds airy and instruments sound fairly accurate. With the K10 I got less air and sound stage extensions. However I think the Andromeda is more sensitive to sources than the K10. With the SP1000M I prefer Andromeda over K10 because of the DAP have very low noise floor. But if I'm running my DAC/AMP or iphone with lightning cables to drive these, I'd take K10 over Andromeda. You can't go wrong with K10, it really is an excellent IEM. However I believe Andromeda have deeper potential is all.

LW707Thanks for your valued input. I have to agree the AK have low noise floor. I'm planning on using the K10 on my 240. This AK device has a very low noise floor. From ur comment on the CA Andromeda's sound, being airier and accuracy, i remember the Jomo 6R's traits as well. The mids to treble resolution is one of the best in an IEM i have auditioned...

LW707How does the nozzle size of the Solaris compare? I'm tempted to shave down the K10U nozzle outside as it's a tad too big for my ears. The Solaris is (definitely) big; however, in the images the nozzle area itself looks like it really cuts down in the end 'metal section' and might even be .. smaller than the K10U? I would find a side x side image really handy, time permitting.

not the best picture but the nozzle on Solaris is a bit smaller than it’s on k10u. The metal part on Solaris actually scratched my ears a few times.. not pleasant I recently got a HYLA TE5B which is also a great sounding hybrid, might worth a thought as well

LW707Thanks for the photo! After seeing an image of someone with the Solaris flush in his ears (!!) I’ve come to the acceptance that my ears are relatively TINY and I should shop accordingly.. it’s cool to see so many new hybrid driver designs. Now, can we get some custom-universal hybrids? :-P

PaulNSI like my new noble Khan’s fitting, it is definitely a step up from the K10(nozzle with great shape) but the treble spikes me pretty hard at times so I have to use foam tips and some minor eq. Also speaking of custom-universal shape like ones I’d also consider the ones like Jomo trinity, Empire ears legend X, and AAW canary. Here’s khan on the left and legend X on the right, hope this helps
