Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

I'm borrowing my buddies Vega right now and absolutely love it. If you love bass, you need to hear this thing. I kinda hope he forgets I have it and I get to borrow-keep forever 😁. I've heard the new Atlas is even better with its huge DD and beats the Vega in just about every way. Sadly, I still want the Noble k10u so I may go ahead and get that over the Cascade since that should be more available in the future.
Even worse as I just picked up a Shure 1540 since they're on sale right now, so is the AudioQuest stuff. I've been thinking of picking up their closed version since the price is under $400 for one new and have read a lot of good stuff about them.
I couldn't resist any longer. Just pulled the trigger on the Cascade's. Buyers remorse will set in soon probably, lol.
So if you can afford any CA products, I highly suggest getting them. I've been researching the CA website for quite some time now, and I never looked at the price of the Cascade's because I've been converted to an IEM guy now lol, but I can tell you with COMPLETE assurance that they'll be worth whatever price they're asking! And if you don't want to drop too much money on a nice pair of CA Comets with a single Vented BA Driver, they're only $200 and the shell is made from ALL stainless steel. Or the Hybrid Polaris's have a DD and a single BA Driver for like $600.
That said, I just started buying and collecting decent IEM's about 6-7 months ago, and I haven't sold any of them yet. I'm keeping my Nuforce EDC IEM's just so I have a cheap pair of DD's to have, and my Nuforce Primo 8 IEM's went in my expensive Recording gear bag, and I'm keeping both of my Westone UM Pro 30 (G1 & G2) IEM's as well. The G1 pair of those is stashed and locked in a mini Masterlock safe tied under the passenger seat of my car with a stock Westone Epic MMCX Cable on them, and the G2 UM Pro 30's are sitting in my backpack I take to work with a Linum G2 Bax MMCX Cable on them. Then my cream of the crop CA Andromeda IEM's with a Linum G2 SuperBax MMCX Cable and Comply Isolation+ tips with Waxguard on them, are sitting at home in a Pelican 1010 case I customized so that there's zero moving and bouncing around going on in there with my Shanling M0 Music Player in solid foam.
Sorry I haven't reached a point in my post just yet, but what I'm saying is, that you can't go wrong with a CA product and that this hobby of collecting IEM's is getting as expensive as my top of the line Recording gear is LoL 😁
That said, I can't stop collecting IEM's yet even though I'll probably never need another pair of them after hearing the Andromedas, and yet I still want a pair of Noble IEM's, and at least 1-2 more pairs of CA IEM's (Dorado and Comet), just to round out my collection.
So point being (I guess) is that as with most things, reach for the Stars with the budget you have, and you'll thank yourself later on, because you'll end up there anyway regardless, and most definitely with spending a lot of money in the process! If I would've bought the Andromedas 6+ months ago when I wanted to, I'd have saved $800+ on buying my Primo 8's, and my Westone UM Pro 30 IEM's. But now that I do have them all, I'm not selling any of them just yet! Haha 👍
I wish I could afford a pair of 64 Audio 12 or 18 driver Universal IEM's too, or their newer TIA design, but those are WAY out of my price range!
And thanks for the recomendation of the CA Cascades. I'm not the biggest headphones guy because my ears start to sweat very soon after putting them on, and they still dont have as good of isolation as IEM's in most cases. Plus their huge size! I just have a single pair of cans right now [Sony MDR-7506] that I JUST use to mix and EQ my live recordings. But that said, I'm really interested in anything CA right now!
Best of luck finding the right IEM's bro!
I actually sent Empire Ears a message and got some first class service. Ended up scooping up probably their last set of Bravado universal iem's. Price was perfect for my budget and sound preference. Then when one of their top guys reaches out to help you with your desicion. Good stuff.
However I prefer the Westone Mini Monitor Vault cases because:
#1-Theyre water and weather proof, and can easily be attached to a belt or belt loop with the appropriate Carabiner!
#2-I can also fit a Westone Dessicant Pod inside with the Andromedas and Dorado's to keep the moisture out of the super expensive IEM's!
#3-I don't like the huge zipper of the CA cases because it tends to scratch their beautiful IEM's up prematurely!

That's the first generation Westone cases even though the Adorama link says it's the II Generation ones. The first generation cases DO NOT have the pressure release valve on them, as well as the first generation of them having more foam to encapsulate the IEM's better to protect them from coming into contact with the plastic polymer inside of the case!
The second generation cases DO HAVE the pressure release valve, which is nice and all, but I prefer the first generation cases because they have a more solid clasp/clip that closes the case, and the little bit more of foam on the inside. The second generation cases have a flimsier clasp/clip that closes the case together and I always felt like I was going to break it everytime I went to open it up, because of the pressure release valve being in the way, and just feel cheaply made compared to the original First Generation cases.
So if I were you I'd get the orange or black first generation Westone Mini Monitor Vault's because of their added durability at the clasp that closes them, as well as the slightly more foam depth on the inside of the cases! I DO really like the added clipping points on the second generation ones, because you can put a small Carabiner on them to keep them from accidentally opening, however the first generation ones don't need those because they're better built IMO!
I've sold or traded the second generation cases I used to have and now I only own the first generation cases, if that tells you anything about them!
Also, I can fit my IEM's ( CA Andromeda, Dorado's and Westone Second Generation UM Pro 30's) inside of the Westone cases with the attached MMCX Cable (Estron Linum G2 SuperBax and Bax MMCX Cables usually), AND a Westone Dessicant Pod inside of them with a nice and tight fit! If you wrap your MMCX Cable and IEM's around just two of your fingers (index and middle finger for me), and keep the MMCX Cable wrapped up on the left side of the case, with the IEM's tucked together on the right side of the inside of the case, so that they don't rub against each other, and with the Dessicant Pod on top of the MMCX Cable, it closes nice and tight. ZERO movement or banging around insid and I can rest assured that no matter what I put that case through abuse-wise, that they'll be nice and protected inside and won't be able to move around a fraction of a hair! I still obviously take amazing care of them and the cases, and avoid ANY sudden shocks or drops as always, but I don't have to worry about them getting damaged from normal day to day usage, since the Andromedas and Dorado's are my daily Drivers. I often have them clipped to my belt loops on my pants with some black 350 Paracord and a NiteIze "SlideLock" Carabiner, and they're still EXTREMELY portable compared to other cases. And you simply CANNOT beat the protection that they offer! You can see what I'm trying to recommend from the above pictures that I forgot I had posted in this thread!
Also, for ANY IEM's without a metal grill to block the sound nozzles and nozzles that have big bore holes, I can't recommend the Comply Isolation+ with Waxguard or the Sport+ with SweatGuard enough. Hell I have them on every IEM I own to prevent ANY ear wax or debris from entering the sound nozzles, plus they're easily the nicest and most comfortable memory foam tips I've ever used! I highly recommend those for every IEM out there!
AND if I want to bring along my TINY Shanling M0 Music Player with the IEM's, and I want to leave the Dessicant Pod at home, I just swap the two out and DONE! That combo also keeps the IEM's from budging a millimeter and makes me feel comfortable too. Can't beat having your expensive IEM's and your TINY music player from getting the elements anywhere near them, and in such a small and portable option! Well worth the $22 they cost IMO! And if I ever want to bring extra MMCX cables or both pairs of my CA IEM's, I just toss everything into a Pelican Micro 1010 or 1015, with some solid cell foam cut to size inside so that everything is snug and tight fitting, and I'm ready for whatever life can throw at me, and it's still a VERY portable listening setup taboot 😎😉😇🎧
Whew, that was a long post. Sorry about that! But I wanted to explain the difference between the two Westone Mini Monitor Vault's, as well as let you know that they can definitely take some abuse from day to day life and real world usage, and to recommend the best way they fit inside, at least for me and my IEM's (with the Dessicant Pods too)! Pics above of my Andromeda setup with the Westone Mini Monitor Vault and the Shanling M0, which can simply be swapped out for the Westone Dessicant Pod!
Hope that helps you in some way and you like them as much as I do! I RARELY use the nice, leather campfire audio cases because they don't offer nearly the same protection as the Westone cases and they scratch the finish off of my expensive IEM's prematurely. However if I'm just going to family or a friend's house and I know the weather is going to be nice, I'll toss my Andromedas, the Westone APT-X Bluetooth MMCX Cable and my Shanling M0 Music Player inside of the CA cases and they work just fine for that. But if you want a very protective and weatherproof case for your IEM's, that's also very small, then look no further than these 😀😜😉🎧

And the second generation case that I've never had, that has the weird compartments inside of the case!
