Do you want a noble X?
You could spend much more to get a better headphone than 199 Hd6xx, but would you get much better sound out of that? If you don't have one, then for 199 you get an essential. If you already have many, it's still tempting because of new color and cable. That's hd6xx's value.
At 249, many probably could find a couple of earphones equal or better. Looking for fidelity? People may not mind to invest more. Looking for fun? The recent drop of Monk Plus at 4.99 may bring smiles as well. Just get into this money-burning hobby? Start with se215 or Layla is up to your willing. Just have to much money to burn or want to diversify unsatisfied tastes? There are too many available.
X is just over there. Not as classic or popular as 6xx, 7xx , or x00 nor as a bargain as many others. Its cost-performance ratio is just not outstanding.
People usually agree more drivers means better and higher price, less drivers means less. From one side, there are 12 armature drivers earphone at the high end. On the other hand, X's two drivers don't make it shine within Noble's fleet. Will X make less mean better? If X does, it will change the concept but that makes Noble's Trident and Savanna meaningless. If X doesn't, that just falls into people's doubt that X is just a X bears Noble's name. Further, Does X be the same as or better than Sage? If it does, Sage cries. If it doesn't, people definitely think that's the reason X is 249.
Suppose X is not as good as Sage (Savant) that is against people to Massdrop's faith which offers the same quality at more reasonable price or more uniqueness.
I guess X is more or less like Sage but it's different. There is no trick because X has to be based on something. Then it's the way of sound adjustment and cost management.
Back to the fact, What's the value of X? The answer is lighting cable. The first thing I am really interesting in is the lighting cable than X itself. I don't dream on 249 X can make a miracle, but I want to make a use of the two pin lighting cable on with TE 100 and Togo 334. Then I realized X wasn't meant for serious comparison. It's a new product created for the new change. Apple has deleted 3.5mm jack on iphone 7 and promised better sound through lighting cable.
This is called collaboration. Noble extends it's product line without risking it's image and Massdrop offers a unique( Noble) product at relatively low price. At 30 ohms, X is good enough for iphones (smartphones) as causal companion. If it's understood, there's no need to compare with others. Just ask, should I have a Noble on my iphone? : )

ChrismassDo you think the lightning cable will sound better than the normal 3.5mm with adapter on an iphone?

ChrismassNoble has already proven less can be better. The K10 is the number one ranked in ears on head fi, and was launched at the same time the Roxane 12 driver was. The savant was no slouch either with reportedly only 2 drivers. Which seems to be why people are considering the noble x to begin with
