For anyone looking for an alternative...I am selling my Shure SE215 for $75 (includes shipping CONUS vis USPS Priority and PayPal fees). They are in excellent condition and include all original accessories and packaging plus Westone Star tips. I had the EDC, and preferred the sound signature 215. I recently acquired CA Comet, so not I am not using the 215 any longer.
lionelsboxReally sorry for not replying sooner. Notice of your reply was in my spam. Odd, because I get notices from Massdrop regularly. I think you would find the clarity of the sound a bit better on the 215's; to my ears the EDC lacked detail. This is a sound quality that I look for in headphones/IEMs. I think it is important to have realistic expectations of a sub $100 IEM, but for me the EDC was just too dark sounding. I can hear a bit more treble sparkle in the 215's. Perhaps this give s the illusion of clarity. Not sure. I was also a bit concerned when I got the EDC because of all the posts about one ear piece or the other losing sound or cutting out. I never had any issues with mine, however. Again, apologies for missing your reply. I still have the 215's if you are interested.
zombywoofThanks for the thorough reply. I used to have the SE215 also and loved it. It was bomb proof and sounded great. I only sold it due to wanting phone / mic function and controls.
I received my EDC last week and am pretty happy with the sound, though I have to say I’ve had few random dead spots / signal loss when I play around with the cable (mic one). It doesn’t inspire confidence and reading the comments here I’m not surprised. Hope this is just the cable ’bedding in’.. haha. In any case there’s no comparison build wise to Shure.
Sound quality wise this is quite similar to 215 but you maybe right, it may have a touch less sparkle than the Shure. My previous buds before this was actually a Sennheiser Momentum In Ear and boy, that was darker than a black hole sound wise.
Thanks again for replying.
lionelsboxGlad you are satisfied with the EDC. If you are ever of a mind to upgrade look into the Campfire Audio Comet. Yes, the price is a bit higher, but it is the best $199 I have ever spent. The Comets are remarkable sounding IEM's. Cheers.
