Triple-Driver IEMs With a Neutral Sound

Following the success of the Massdrop x NuForce EDC, named The Absolute Sound’s 2017 Earphone of the Year, we’re excited to announce its big brother: the EDC3. This new IEM swaps the original’s single dynamic driver for three balanced armatures per ear, and the lightweight housing is entirely translucent to showcase the drivers within. The tuning is different, too: While the EDC has a fun sound with a bit of extra bass, the EDC3 is more neutral and less warm—but still retains its musicality. The two complement one another well for those who like to have a pair of IEMs (one neutral, one fun) to cover all the bases. On its own, the EDC3 makes a great everyday all-rounder, complete with two cables, five sets of ear tips, and a carrying case.

2 Removable Cables for Everyday Use

The EDC3 IEMs are ready to go everywhere with you. Wear them at home, in the office, at the gym, or while traveling or commuting. You’ll get two removable cables: a braided cable for top-notch performance and a second cable with an inline remote and microphone. For a comfortable fit, both cables use a shrink-wrapped over-ear guide with a thin profile (especially convenient for users who wear glasses) and a two-pin connector that won’t rotate as you move. Along with allowing you to switch between these two cables, the removable cable capability has other benefits. You’ll have the flexibility to swap in different cables to support different devices, and if your cable ever breaks, you can simply get a new one instead of replacing the entire IEM.

Reviews

"The Massdrop x NuForce EDC3s delivered the best sound I’ve heard for under $100—not just from earphones, but from any audio product I can think of. Their neutral tonal balance, smooth treble, well-defined bass, and colossal sense of space made them a real joy to listen to." – Brent Butterworth, SoundStage Experience (Winner of the Reviewers' Choice Award) (see measurements)

"The EDC3 is a jack-of-all-trades IEM. It will play well with whatever you throw its way. Jean Sibelius sounds great with the EDC3, as does Led Zeppelin, Jenny Lewis, Prodigy, Dr. Dre, and whomever or whatever else your ears fancy hearing. Audiophile all-arounder, indeed!" – David Ulrich, Headfonia

"There was a time when a 3 BA IEM was insanely expensive and this is clocking in at $100. No, seriously. Full bodied and robust sounding with a frankly stunning bottom end for that price…Super fun, beefy little beastly entertainers.” – mark2410, MobileTechTalk

“I’d take these over some $1,500 IEMs...Definitely exceeds expectations. Quite fantastic for the price." – Marvey, SuperBestAudioFriends

“Reminds me of a cross between the Westone 2 and 4 but less warmth and bass than typical Westone tuning. It’s amazing to me what $99 can get you now compared to just a few years ago.” – shotgunshane, SuperBestAudioFriends

"To me, mids are the main highlight of the piece. EDC3’s mids are clear and arguably the smoothest and most detailed of its 3 main sound regions. It is forward in nature, yet it’s lush and articulate throughout. Vocals, both male and female, were an absolute bliss to listen to." – ejong7, Head-Fi

"My overall take is one hell of a deal, a natural listening experience without any major wants. I can see these making a lot of people very happy.” – Massdrop community member dbel84

"On 'All Around the World' (TajMo), I could instantly locate Taj Mahal’s ukulele in space...J. Boog’s 'Waiting on the Rain' isn’t as sonically sophisticated, but the EDC3s reproduced it with balance and grace. Switching to electronic production, Major Lazer’s 'Aerosol Can' was a revelation." – Dave Marcus, Engearment

"I don’t think I’m alone when I say that although I love bass, yet too much bass over a prolonged period of time can give me a headache. If I’m going to listen to music for a long time, I prefer to have a nice, balanced, neutral sound. The Massdrop x NuForce EDC3 in-ear monitors do just that." – Pete Hernandez, TechAeris

"Quite a good choice for those who are looking for a more refined and matured EDC." – ClieOS, Head-Fi

"Whether you're an EDC-minded audiophile or looking to finally upgrade your current pair of 'phones, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better value than these. It's not often you see triple balanced armature IEMs under $100." – Bernard Capulong, Everyday Carry

They come with two cables, but if you are like me and broke one and lost the other, you can buy 0.78mm 2pin cables on Aliexpress for like $10, they work fine.Read More
