I've just received these headphones, and there's a irritating hum behind the tunes. I've checked the cabling, connections, and have swapped the wires. I've also tested it across multiple platforms and against other earbuds. These, unfortunately, have the hum persist no matter what I play. I'm sure these headphones sound great when they actually work (not to mention the bass is severely lacking), but I would recommend against purchasing Massdrop made products until they improve their quality control. I usually love Massdrop, but I'm disappointed by the execution of their self made products.

JfkreloadedThat's a real bummer to hear, I have a few Massdrop Made audio products that all came with papers that noted that my product passed QC.
I was hoping to get in on this drop because I really need a pair of IEMs for when I'm studying on campus (carrying around my 7XXs and the amp they oh so need gets old very quickly). Guess Massdrop Made isn't what it to used to be ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyone have any suggestions for some non-Massdrop IEMs that are still worth the price? I'm hoping for something in the $80-$120 range.

JfkreloadedThis doesn't sound right at all. As a matter of fact this is very strange. I would like to personally inspect the earphones. Is the hum coming from both earphones? What if you don't push the EDC3s completely to your ear canal, can you still hear the hum?
All EDC/EDC3 earphones go through several steps before shipped out from our factory. One of the steps is measurement and earphones matching. The humming noise should be seen and this is the first time I ever hear about this kind of issue. All I can think is that one of the cables inside is loose and touching metal surface. However this should impact only on one either one of the channels, not both.
Please email me directly at jyri.jokirinta ( a ) optoma.com. I´ll get back to you right away.

JyriUPDATE: After receiving a fresh pair, the background static was gone. My pair was definitely an exception to the norm. The sound is nice, and I'm quite happy with them. Neutral sounds, fantastic guitars, ok bass(foam plugs will solve this), and detailed sound - it's definitely a new challenger. NuForce also dealt with the defective pair exceptionally, and I'll be returning to them.

lolnahI bought Beyerdynamic 'Byrons' for $50 w/free shipping (Amazon). Best iem I've ever put in my ear. Clear, no distortion, no sibilance in highs, good fit for working out, clear tight bass. Check out reviews. Caveat: I've never tried the nu Force offered today, nor the $100 Shure that's on many reviews for "best iem @ $100"

JyriUnfortunately, I have a similar - not the same though - problem. Sometimes my right earphone cannot "resolve" the music and produces weird noise/sounds while it's okay with the left. I would understand if such a thing happens with both and at maximum volume but when it happens with only one channel and at low volume, probably, something is wrong.

Captain_NemoSounds more like something to do with source device. Technically the earphones have so little components that there shouldn‘t be anything that could cause this. However if you want we can replace to a new pair even just in case, and then we inspect the old pair and make sure there indeed isn’t anything wrong.
Can you also help to try both cables and see if this makes any difference?

JyriThank you, I really appreciate you proposal to change it just in case.
Before leaving previous comment I tried to switch channels through equalizer but the noise stayed in the right. So, I decided that the problem is with the earphones. After your reply I tried a couple of other earphones with the same result. I agree that the problem is not with your earphones.
In sum, they are really good for the money - they are more spacious than westone 4 and NuForce seems to be very cooperative company - recommended.
