The Ifi iDSD Micro and Nano (new ones) still use an old chip as they say it's the best they have tested for both DSD and PCM (others excel at one only), so in other words, old chips can often out perform new ones for certain designs, so may be this is the case here?

KaneDWilliamsHard to say, sprout is a decent company so its not a stretch to say they are competent enough to design them correctly. I hope they release some reviews and stuff like they did for the SDAC drop.
