Could someone please help me understand how this material compares with Goretex and eVent for breathability and water resistance? The numbers are difficult to interpret without comparative context. I get it that a stretchy outer surface is not common among those alternatives; is that the main advantage of this material? Thanks!

delnerdoExactly -- how does this compare with Goretex and other fabrics?
Also, the photos make the men's jacket look shorter than the women's. Is that accurate? How about some more complete photos of someone modeling the men's version.

hatmanBelow are stats on breathability. All jackets are 2.5 or 3 layer and fully waterproof with taped seams.

hatmanThe womens jacket isn't proportionally longer. We just had a really skinny female model that makes it appear thus. Sorry for any confusion. The center back length for the mens is 30". It is plenty long to cover most torsos :)

DannyMilksDanny, I know it's a potential marketing tool but you and I both know that nobody who actually knows about WPB fabrics takes any of these "standard" breathability measures seriously. Posting a chart like that without any extra info or context is misleading at best and to be honest downright dishonest when you are talking to people who aren't familiar with the intricacies of the topic.
What testing method is being used? Have you tested the jacket using any of the other methods (of which there are many - which often give wildly varying results)? Is the fabric air-permeable? And are you and Rab really claiming that this fabric is somehow magically both cheaper and more breathable than eVent and Gore Pro?
My guess is that this is a monolithic PU membrane, with real-world breathability far below the high-end air-permeable fabrics like eVent, NeoShell and Gore Pro. I'm not saying it's a bad fabric, it is lightweight and probably very nice to wear. But breathability is unlikely to be anything special.

delnerdoHave a look at my reply to Danny. Despite what his misleading chart claims I am 99% sure this is far less breathable in the real-world than the high-end air permeable fabrics like eVent, Gore Pro and NeoShell. If you want a breathable jacket I can highly recommend eVent - although you need to keep it clean. And keep in mind, no fabric is "breathable" enough to keep you dry if you are sweating a lot or in a very humid climate.
Relative water resistance is not a thing to worry about on a rain jacket. All fabrics that are claimed to be "waterproof" are far more waterproof than they need to be for the real world. They must test at least 10,000mm (that's 10m of water pressure) on a water column to be called waterproof. Something that tests at 30,000mm is not going to keep you dryer than something that tests at merely 11,000mm. Breathability and durability are what differentiate WPB fabrics.

JoomyThis jacket is made of magic, but I had the same opinion as you before I actually wore it. I don't understand it but it IS waterproof.... And it IS amazingly breathable. I sweat REALLY easily so I sweat easily in pertex, gore-tex etc... But somehow I can wear this all day no problem.
