Stone_MaNYetis have very good insulation. So yes I did find, stalk, and hunt one to get its pelt so I could make some sweet coolers. Maybe you like your wine in a can warm, but I sure don't.
Also as a side note, if you're on massdrop buying all the random goodness here, you have disposable income.

Stone_MaN You need to understand that products don't come out of nowhere, they need to be designed, prototyped, tested and repeated. Businesses don't survive on nothing, and there are multiple supply chains with their own profit margins which stack up all the way until the end product. Products like this help continue on the chain of products and development into new things. Either your support that or not, no one is forcing you to participate :)

Stone_MaNSo what you're trying to say is no one should buy things to entertain themselves with because they're being taken to the cleaners for buying something they feel is worth the money. Not everyone's got the brain capacity of a sponge, people can make decisions by themselves without hearing you preach your wikipedia knowledge of market movements and supply/demand.
My parents used to buy me $50 action men figures when I was 5. I still get $50 toys, difference is I unfortunately pay for them myself nowadays. Though if you want to design, manufacture and sell a similar CNC'd spinner to this one for $5 hit me up with your paypal email, I'm sure everyone else would love to know.

Stone_MaNThen do it yourself. If there is so much profit to be made, why haven't you? Free money in your eyes, you'd be an idiot not to take it.

BobrazTotal side note but yetis are actually pretty great.
Went camping on a Friday with a chest of ice and by Sunday afternoon there were still ice floating in the chest.

YanboWusoooo... uh... Yeti GB on massdrop soon? Would be perfect for you guys since the summers coming up. Looks like Yeti currently has a 64oz bottle, and a half gallon jug and gallon jug "coming soon". Would be perfect to have those for some keeping my margaritas cold / hiding my beer while at the beach this summer (cant drink out of cans on the beaches by me, its either hide it in a solo cup which gets warm and sand in it or find another way).

Quakemzpray tell what does "manufacturing and machining knowledge" have to do with it? simple, google/ebay/amazon search will tell anyone these are way over priced. search yourself and then tell me 50 to 100 dollars is NOT a huge markup on some of the these. they are having most of these things made in china in mass, and charging a premium for them as people are willing to buy them. "toys" that do exactly the same thing can be had for 5 to 25 dollars tops. but feel free to spend more. I'm simply trying to save people some money. but feel free to pay much much more for products that do the exact same thing. I will not be commenting further in this discussion, enjoy your expensive toys you paid to much for, as i realize its human nature to defend one's purchases regardless how wrong they are, as we all hate to be wrong. maybe the guy in the cubical next to you will be impressed by your expensive bearing with polished shiny clear coated brass and you can feel good about yourselves, untill Thomas says, "I have one that is coated in pure gold Henry, cost me $999.99".
yeti can coolers and mugs have been reviewed and tested and perform no better than others that look exactly the same for 1/4 of the retail price yeti asks. do your research there are many reviews out there that prove this. matter of fact there are 4 I have seen that are the exact same thing the only notable difference being the name stamped on them in the factory and the plastic on the top ring. exact same story with their travel mugs.

Stone_MaNYou're looking at it completely the wrong way. Yes, it's a spinner. Can you get a spinner for cheaper? Abso-fucking-lutely! Just like how you can get a burger at McDonald's for $1 or spend $15 at a nicer place and get a more quality meal. Or how you can get a piece of shit car off craigslist for $300, or you can buy a fancy brand new sports car for $50,000.
There is a ton of time and effort into designing something like this, not to mention prototyping and talking with the manufacturers and consumers. Vendors don't just sell things at cost. Basically EVERYTHING you buy in your life will have a markup. You know why? Because that's how companies stay in business to pay the people that work there, to cover their costs and put that money back into R&D. This isn't just a random plastic spinner. It's a CNC-machined piece of metal with very intricate cuts and much higher build quality than something you'd find for $5. Because of that, it costs much more money to produce. Now, add on some profit for the person that spent all that time designing and testing prototypes, because his time is worth more than $0, tack on a little profit for Massdrop, because they've taken on the responsibility of distribution and customer support, which is also, rightly so, more than $0 for their time, and now here we are: At a very high-end fidget device. Is it a necessity? Of course not. Nobody needs one of these. But, it's a neat item and some people want it, just like lots of things.
Now chill out and open your eyes. This isn't supposed to be a necessity, just like nobody needs a fancy car, fancy house, or nice expensive food. Let people spend their money how they want.

Stone_MaNYou also forget the economics of scale manufacturing. Try to make one of these locally and see how much it costs. This product isn't going to be made in the hundreds of thousands like those #fidgetspinners being shared on Instagram.
Even 3d printing one is expensive. Either you paid for the printer, or you paid for someone to service you and print it.

Stone_MaNNever understand how there can be so many comments like yours on a place like Massdrop, which caters to so many niche hobbies. You would think people on here would just respect other's hobbies and don't be acting all high and mighty about how they are "wasting" their money.

Stone_MaNYou don't even know the difference between "to" and "too" yet you expect people to blindy believe your armchair psychology and New York Times economy column bullshit and not waste their hard earned money on something they want.
Your misformed opinion will effect nobody, I may understand your concern if this was $500 but if you are so traumatically worried about people spending 50 bucks on MASSDROP of all places then just delete your account, cancel your internet contract (or ask your parents to) and move to Nepal to live as a monk.
No one needs your salvation. No need to mask your thirst for selfrighteous approval and attention as selfless protecting of others, stop wasting your time.

Stone_MaN"maybe the guy in the cubical next to you" Sorry mate, you really are out of your league, most of us here, have guys working in cubicles for us.
"they are having most of these things made in china in mass" And again, like does stuff come out of your mouth before you think? How the hell do you think someone is going to design a spinner, then contract the parts to be made in China, to be shipped across the globe then assembled then shipped again, for $5? I am keeping it very simple here for your brain to grasp this one sentence.
I hope my next comment takes you over the edge. I bought a RAMA SS HEART LIQUID CHOCOLATE cap this last February to match my Chocolatier key set. $70 and 4 months wait. It's just one keycap. Are you having a stroke? Possible brain aneurysm?
Your opinion is appreciated, your lack of understanding is not.

Stone_MaNHEY EVERYONE, GET IN HERE!
Stone_MaNA whole bunch of people have said the same thing, so I won't re-hash it too much, and I totally see where you're coming from - you can go to eBay or Amazon & find a fidget spinner for $5, in exactly the same way you can find a wrist watch for $5, the thing that sets something like this drop apart is build quality and exclusivity.
Very few people really need a fidget spinner, in the same way very few people need a pint of ice cream, or a mechanical keyboard or a wrist watch - its a little luxury that people want, and while I'm not super into the fidget spinner craze myself, people who are should totally go ahead and buy something nice if they want it, there's no harm in buying something you like :)
So yeah, if you just want something that tells the time on your wrist, you could buy a $5 mass-produced watch from eBay, but if you want something more well built and carefully crafted that you really enjoy, you can buy a $10,000 Rolex, both do exactly the same thing - it's really the same principal here.
As a side thought - it'd be really cool if a couple of drops started showing bits of the machining/manufacturing processes for products like these, if people could see the time it took to build them I think they'd understand why they're priced the way they are :)

massdrop27percentWell said, sadly I don't get paid to comment here, I just do it for free and try keeping it simple for the simpletons. Just a joke folks, lies.
Seriously though, very true what you said.
