As of now, 1,800 people have signed on to pay $50 for a spinner. A SPINNER. That they won't see for months.
What is going on? This fad is ridiculous.

GnoshSo out of touch that the internet is the only place you can still live in this disconnected world you perceive, Everything is a fad. Habit. Addiction. Obsession.
Get over it.

GnoshRama is mainly a keyboard enthusiast, I'd wager at least half (probably way more but I'm purposely undershooting) of the people committed to joining this drop are part of that community too and are mostly in on this because they love him and his work.
I joined the drop, here on MD, for Godspeed SA (keycaps) on September 10th of last year - they haven't even entered production yet. 3800 kits were sold. They're all waiting, just like me. I joined a different key cap set group buy elsewhere in July last year, guess what's happening with that one? Still waiting for SAMPLES in order to give word that production can be *scheduled* to commence. Many others (thankfully not myself) have been waiting for sets they paid for in 2015 and guess what? They were given the chance to cancel but have chosen not to and have been waiting to receive them since (with anywhere between 100 to 500+ bucks invested into it).
Where am I trying to go with this? Not everyone is impatient. Not everybody is a starving college student that can't afford a $50 toy (thankfully), no matter what it is.
Funny and ironically enough, as per the Oxford Dictionary's latest edition, a "fad" can be an arbitrary like OR dislike of a certain thing - one could argue that your obvious need to complain about other people's harmless behaviour and where they get their enjoyment/happiness from (no matter where, so long as it hurts no one) is also a fad. There's no need to try and feel superior to anybody else here, I don't understand people paying $300 for a kickstarter of a deck of playing cards but who am I to judge. Live and let live, Bob.
