Hi everyone, We’re checking back in with an update on the Massdrop x Schwarz Perpetua EDC Folding Knife. The first 500 units are en route to our warehouse. Once they arrive, they’ll undergo quality control checks, after which we’ll pack and prepare them for shipment. If your order is within the first 500 units sold, you can expect shipping to begin by the end of this week (September 7). Notifications have gone out via email in regards to your order status. We’re still awaiting the second delivery to fulfill the rest of the drop, unfortunately. If your order is in the second batch, you have also been notified via email with more information. We’re working closely with Millit to prioritize getting the second batch of knives into our warehouse and out to you as soon as possible. Thanks again for your patience. We’ll be back closer to the new estimated ship date with more information about the status of the second batch.

JaleesaGSo long as the knife is as good as I hope it will be, it will be worth the wait. Looking forward to my both my first Millet and my first Massdrop collab knife.

JaleesaGHuzzah! Wait...I'm in the first batch, right? I can't remember, I genuinely have to make myself forget about things I would look forward to until close to the times of their actual fulfillment, or I go a bit insane. It's a useful mental technique, until you're scrambling to pack for a month-long trip to South America an hr before you leave for the airport because you honestly had forgotten about the trip...
But I did get the email saying "on the way at the end of the week" so I must be in the first batch--right? Right. I think.

JaleesaGThis is straight up bullshit, you need to get it your act together. This drop has been a terrible experience and you will most likely never get my business again after this. I expect further delays and do not believe that I will be seeing the second batch before 2019. Giving a $10 credit leads me to believe that you think I will be giving you additional business going forward, another slap in the face.

JaleesaGCan you please explain why Millit Knives responded "millitknives@issues1975 Every last knife has already been shipped. Massdrop is most likely doing their own QC and preparing the orders for shipment" on their instagram page and after questioned about a further MD delay they responded "millitknives@issues1975 I'm sorry to hear that, not sure why they would say you are gonna have to wait another month." What caused this second delay? Very confused over this order...

JaleesaGThanks for the update! This will be my first Millit knife but I have a couple of their clips for CRKs and the workmanship is perfect. I'm really eager to get this knife in hand and see how Millit/Schwarz execute the iconic "axis" lock!

mmscThat was me asking Millit once I received the email in question as I am in the second batch. I'm not sure who to believe anymore. Unfortunately, there's not much I can do but wait for the drop to finally come in. This was my first order with Massdrop and I cannot say it has been an enjoyable experience. I have joined another drop that has an estimated delivery date of mid December so we will see how that one goes. I doubt I will join anymore until after I see how that one plays out. I mostly collect customs so I am used to knife maker forecasts being way off but they aren't productions houses (like Millit) and I never pay up front.

issuesIf Millit is advising they shipped, I think we can take that to the bank.....there is something else going on behind the scenes Massdrop is being intentionally ambiguous about......I work in intermodal operations at a logistics company, I move shipments DAILY from Idaho to Ohio on a train and they arrive in 7 days......that’s over triple the distance moving via the slowest mode of transportation available, so I’m not buying this explanation AT ALL.....

issues"I have joined another drop that has an estimated delivery date of mid December"--the Gavko Thresher, yeah?
Me too, and I admit to being nervous about it given this Perpetua situation; I skipped the Ochs collab knife because even if it shipped on time, I just couldn't stomach putting 300 of my knife dollars to bed for...what's the estimated ship date, like February? So call it six months, assuming no delays. $150-200 I could handle, but $300 will get me the forthcoming new Sinkevich designed ZT (love the marbled carbon scales!) w/ $ left over for celebratory scotch; three bills could snag a hard-to-find Microtech from PVK; it could buy a new Pro-Tech Magic 2; it's enough to finish paying off my Kubasek custom (also with, uh, marbled carbon scales; I'm a sucker for them, apparently) or be a down payment on the next custom. Way too many awesome knife things I could do with $300 in knife money to stomach it taking a six month siesta.
As for the Thresher, however, we can perhaps be a bit hopeful about the production: I communicated w/ Mr. Gavac on MD and outside it a tiny bit, and he said he ordered a couple versions for himself just like any other customer in order to get a customer's perspective. He also told me he was, and will continue to be, in regular contact with...who is the OEM, We? Or Reate? Cant remember; doesn't matter. Mr. Gavac said he will remain in contact with them throughout production to assist with questions and generally make sure things seem to be progressing satisfactorily. He said that if a knife is going out to buyers with his logo on it he wants to be as sure as he can reasonably be that piece # 438 of the run is as well done as the prototypes, and that the ordering/delivery process runs smoothly.
All those words are worth just exactly what you paid for them, and even were he genuinely motivated, its debatable how much influence Mr. Gavac or any designer could have over production once it's reached that stage. But conversely, you have to figure MD and the OEM will be trying hard to ensure he feels good about the partnership and wants to continue with it. That thought was enough it justification for me to join the drop after I'd resolved to only order products ready to ship, first run inducements be dammed. That's my solution going forward with MD: just don't be first. I think they have really excellent collaborations, and I love that big league custom knife makers allow their designs to be made in a version accessible to people who can't or won't spend several hundred or several thousand $s on a knife. But I worry about the lag between $ and delivery. So the solution is just to make sure to not sign up for initial drops on new products. Yes there's a longer wait, but at least you'll have nothing lost if the whole project goes belly-up. [CoughcoughSpydercosprintrunscoughcoughcough]

JaleesaGI'm sorry but this is just ridiculous. I haven't said a single thing about the constant delays because I work in manufacturing and I understand things happen to deadlines, but this is crazy. One delay is understandable now I'm told I'm on my FOURTH DELAY over a pocket knife. No I don't want to cancel my order, no I don't want another 10 dollar credit that I will doubtfully use, I want what I ordered 6 months ago.

JaleesaGSo are we just not going to get an answer on why 500 knives are missing? Millit is saying they completed the order and shipped out all knives and you should have them. 500 units of missing inventory should be concerning. I mean it is to me since you guys already have my money and it sounds like lost my knife.

JaleesaGWhy ship the two batches separately? Makes zero sense financially to move as two separate shipments, and you’re not going to suddenly save face with 500 people by getting them their knives a few weeks sooner, not after you bungled this entire process so royally. In fact, I would venture to say you lost more customers than you salvaged with this move. Also, if Millit has already shipped the knives, as they already confirmed and you indicated in the vague ”update”, how would THEY prioritize getting them onto YOUR docks? You’re the freight payer, Millit would have NO parts in any of that. Or does the 8 man team at Millit also include a logistics wing with a fleet of trucks??? Please take ownership of the situation YOU’VE created, and provide your customers with real, tangible updates.

JaleesaGCan you please explain the cause of this latest delay. Is this an artificial delay based on a predefined batch size? It appears the MK has completed and shipped all knives to MD. Can you confirm that MD has all of the knives? Why would there be a need to ship the other 500+ later. @JaleesaG please provide more detail?

+1 for this, a discount on future orders doesn't cut it when the manufacturer's telling us there should be no further delays. What's going on!?

AverageDudeInstead of grabbing pitchforks, can we take a step back and think of the logistics? Maybe shipping 1000 in one shipment would be more expensive than 2 sets of 500, and even if Millit sent them at the same time, who knows if they got separated in shipping. Why is everyone assuming that they have something to gain by postponing. They know you guys are all going to get upset and complain immensely when there is a delay, so why would they do it.

Millit's pretty adamant they've shipped everything and Massdrop is saying otherwise so SOMETHING is (again) wrong and we're not being given the full picture. Massdrop deserves ZERO benefit of the doubt given everything that's happened up to this point, we've been patient enough.

BenjaboolyI work as an operations manager at a logistics company, so let me address your statement......it’s not cheaper to ship this as 2 shipments, plain and simple, and for obvious reasons.....secondly, I know now FOR A FACT that these all were shipped together. No one, at any time, stated Massdrop has anything to gain by delaying a shipment, quite the contrary, they are losing future business by the day with their deafening silence on this matter. I can’t speak for everyone on this forum, but at this point, I’d just like to know the truth.....are they sitting in a third party warehouse somewhere en route? Either way, we are 100% being misled, and that’s the root of the issue.....this is the 4th ship date they’ve missed, and no, while we’re not technically “entitled“ to an explanation, if Massdrop has any hopes of salvaging future business from any of the 1000 people in on this drop, they would be well advised to offer the same level of transparency that Millit has during the manufacturing process

HatuletohI have spoken with Mike many a time. I bought my first custom fixed blade from him way back when. Hell, if he made lefties, I never would've joined the Thresher drop as I would've had him just make me one but alas, he says lefties are only made when he makes a mistake...lol
As for this drop, like I said, there's not much I can do but wait for the knives I bought to come in. I actually purchased 4, one for me and 3 others as presents. Presents for events that have long passed. Good thing is (if you can call it that) it has been so long, they probably don't remember the IOU and it will be a surprise all over again.
This whole mess has definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. I really hope the WE Knives Gavko drop goes smoothly since I purchased 2, one for me and another as a Christmas gift for a fellow lefty.

ecolemanALL of the knives shipped, that is an indisputable fact that I have pictures to support, so we can put that entire argument to bed. I would surely hope they Massdrop is aware that people who enjoy high end, daily carry items are a very small minority, and intentionally lying to customers while throwing a small, AMERICAN manufacturing facility under the bus in the process is an excellent way to lose your entire customer base....the ball is in Massdrop‘s court, they need to take the time on this forum, or via email, to provide us with a substantive update ASAP.

TonyfebGiven that we know there wasnt a second later shipment, when you said MD has nothing to gain by delaying further, I decided to tryi to imagine a scenario wherein that wasnt true, because obviously they have, so there must have been a reason. It could be simply a really, really misguided commitment to the principle of fulfilling first the orders of people who ordered first, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they're not insane.
So within those parameters, my hypothetical scenario; it's as generous to MD as I can be while still being plausible: perhaps at this particular moment they dont have the resources to process the incoming shipment, perform the QC, and repackage the merch to be mailed to the customers? Maybe theyve had employee turn-over recently and positions havent been filled; maybe they have one or more additional products arriving at the same time, perhaps also badly delayed, that need the same treatment. And since this one was expected and budgeted for at the end of June/beginning of July, amd the other incoming shipments weren't initially expected right now, theyre scheduling/budgeting is screwed to hell; they're are having to make choices about where to focus available manpower. They're afraid to say to customers, "we have your knives but we cant get to them just yet" will send ppl into a fury, so they decide to split the difference, process half, and pin the delay for the second half on Millit. Probably wont take too terribly long to get them out anyway, so though initially angry, those customers should be pleasantly surprised in the end.
That's the best I can come up with. If that's anything like close to reality, then they forgot a cpl important things: #1, if you're going to lie, figure out first who is on a position to bust you and either get them on board with lying, divert them with a separate lie, or cow them into silence. But make sure some dumb ass with an Instagram account doesnt inadvertently blow your subterfuge right to hell (and seriously, how did MD not consider Millit's response? Ppl been saying, "Millit told me this" or "Millit posted that on Instagram" for weeks now). #2, w/ thanks to "Glengarry-Glen Ross", still a great and terrifying movie despite recent..."revelations", ugh...Make sure the lie helps. If you're going to lie, make sure it helps the situation and doesn't hurt it. Even if it hadnt been exposed, I think most ppl would rather have heard, "we have the knives but we are a bit short-handed so we'll get the first orders on the way ASAP and get to the second half as quick as humanly possible."
Not ideal, but esp if they could have provided an estimated date when the second half would ship, I think it would have been better than "something happened with Millit. We dont know what. We received a distress signal late last night and we've had no communication since. We are putting together a crack team of MBAs, equipped with the latest in smartphone and briefcase technology to drop in, find any survivors and the knives, and get the hell out. We just...dont know what they'll find...when they get...to...Idaho...Millit was working with some very experimental laser tech. We told them they were crazy, pushing the etching envelope too far, but they said they could handle it, said they were on the verge of something BIG..."
