MaverickAHI didn't notice a big difference between HD580s and HD600s when I owned both at the same time. Most of the difference was in worn vs new pads, and almost all the difference disappeared when I put new pads on the 580. The 600 was a little more detailed in the treble, but the 580 was a little more detailed in the bass from memory.
But if these are close to either, they are a bargain.

spronkI would agree with you about the 600 being more detailed in the treble. I would also add that the overall soundstage was also better. Much more depth & iinstrument placement was superior. I'm pretty sure that I got the 565's on closed out as Sennheiser was transitioning to the more attractive look of the 580/600 cans.
To this day, I still supremely enjoy the sound of my 565's. I also have an original pair of HD 25's that I've similarly refurbished that also sound wonderful & are still in use. I'm the original owner of both. In fact, now that I think about it, the HD 25's would be ideal candidates for a Massdrop update! Offer them with a 4-6' cable with inline mic/controls & you'd have something truly portable & special! I bought an aftermarket inline cable for mine (4') & I swear to you that the shorter run improved the sound. FTR, the HD 25's are still considered an industry standard for studio & DJ use.

I still own a pair of HD 565 Ovations. I've had them for over 20 years & just recently had them refurbished with a new headband & earpads. When I purchased them, the HD 580's as well as the newly introduced HD 600's were also available. My thoughts at the time were that the HD 580's didn't offer any significant improvement & the HD 600's, while better, didn't warrant the price increase. All three were definitely in the same family, sound-wise. With the lower impedance & improvements described, these just might be the best bang for your buck!
