I recently bought myself some 598s for mostly gaming use. I wonder how these 58X headphones would be for gaming? I don't like that little bump in the 598 ear cups as it ever so lightly rubs on my ear and irritates it but due to the angled driver and buying larger pads I have eliminated that irritant. It looks like these don't have that little bump so they might be more comfortable in that regard, however, these don't look like they have angled drivers. That means my ears might actually fully touch the drivers which might also be uncomfortable for me. This drop has complicated my headphone life.

ShiftedFor "competitive" gaming, according to what I read, the AKG K7xx would be better than HD6xx or 58x, better soundstage and airiness. I have the 6xx, and soundstage is OK but nothing special, the K7xx have MASSIVE soundstage, which is crucial for gaming (being able to position an enemy by hearing footsteps, for instance). Now If you mostly play single-player or non-competitive games and just want a pair of comfy headphones for long gaming sessions, I'd say the HD6xx are better than the 58x for one simple reason: bass. The 58x are more forward, analytical sounding than the warm, laid-back, bassy HD6xx.
Now, my personal preference for movies/games/entertainment: Audio Technica ATH-M50x with brainwavz leather earpads. I prefer them over the HD6xx for two reasons: sub-bass (almost non-existent on the 6xx, and most mid-priced open-back headphones) and being closed-back (noise isolation and no sound leakage might be important, depends on your environment). Yes, they bass might bleed a bit into the mids, and the highs can be a bit sibilant, and they might be exhausting after a while... But watching an action movie or playing some games without that deep sub-bass rumble is like missing something. And comfort-wise they are very good (not with the stock earpads, those are really bad and will cause discomfort after an hour or less).

ShiftedLooking at the same headphones currently, I own the 559s which also have that annoying bump inside the ear cup, it's been killing me lately, glad to hear I'm not the only one who felt this.
