I wish someone would cut to the chase: why would I want these if I already own the 6XXs? Or looking at it another way: why buy these instead of the 6XXs?
CokemanI did not even think about modding them, that's not a bad idea. 660s are over rated and are like %10 better than 6xx with some slight difference in sound signature. I don't know if you could or would want to change the sound of the 58x (have not heard them yet).
Cokemanso the 58X Jubilee is the same thing as a 6XX but without that silly little foam piece and these have more bass which i heard the 6XX is lacking? so these are better bang for the buck?
CokemanHmm...different drivers though right? So I assume you mean mod to emulate the sound of the 660s?
Handy tip, but I'm not sure I'm a 660s kinda guy just yet.
You?
CokemanOh nice! I was deciding between Aune X1S and CTH. I'm glad I chose CTH at the end. Now I can't wait until mine arrives. Do you also happen to own 4XX's? If so, how does it compare to 58X?
CokemanDo you plan on selling some but just never get around to it? I think I'm that way with keyboards. I went on a keyboard binge for a few years. I should sell a few, but I never do.
CokemanSo why'd you buy them if you dont mind me asking? I'm looking for my first professional over the ear headphone, I do video production & also enjoy listening to music when I can (I like a bit of bass)... Im looking for the best overall and am concerned about the 6xx's having less bass...
WittenzellnerI bought them to see if I can turn them into the 660S with mods. If you do video production you want nuetral headphones in which case the HD600 will suite you the best because they are the most neutral and push the most detail out of any in the series.
CokemanI read these are closer to the HD600's and the 6xx is closer to the HD650's correct? (also to just be transparent i currently use my bose in ear soundtrue ultra for the best quality over my corsair void gaming headset so anything will be better than what i currently use.)
hyperlinkedI feel ya, got a stupid amount of mouse in a short period of time, trying to find the right one. Now, I'm just using a $25 wireless Logitech mouse... :/
Cokemanlet me put it this way, any pair i get will be infinitely better than what i have now... I dont need super accurate for work, id prefer the headphones to have more bass and be a little uneven than something neutral. I want to enjoy them more than i work with them. I already use earbuds for work so its obviously not too important.
VollyOh, (cough) (cough) I don't have a mouse addiction on top of my keyboard addiction at all. After all, I'm sure I'll be able to use all of my nearly two dozen mice at some point in my life. I had a period of around 5 years where I was suffering progressive hand and wrist pain and I just kept buying keyboards and input devices to try and find something that I could use pain free. Ok, I admit that I got a few just because they were fun. ;)
On top of around 20 mice, I have around 3 dozen keyboards. Five of them alone are IBM Model M's. That's how bad I am.
My current mouse is a 14 button Roccat Tyon that I got through Massdrop. At least I saved like $30+ dollars off of the normal price. Thanks for allowing me to feed the beast on a budget, Massdrop.
My hand pain has gotten a lot better so I was able to settle down and just stick with a favorite keyboard instead of having to move onto another one every 4 to 6 months.
Wittenzellner6xx aren't bass light they just won't have the same kind of bass you'd would get in a closed headphone. but the bass is definitely still great on the 6xx/650 but i wouldn't recommend them for studio monitoring, they have to much low mids/mid bass.
Wittenzellnerthat was the case pre production, the current model / the model everyone is receiving is closer to the hd650 but with improved bass and treble extension.
Z0d1AcI'm waiting for Zeos Pantera to review these before trying any mods. I suspect the better channel matching on the 660S and tighter tolerances etc will still make them a better headphone.
VollySo how'd you end up with the Intellimouse after all the different rodent input devices you tried? What was your fanciest one? I'm pretty happy with a Roccat Tyon. I definitely want lots and lots of buttons on my mice so I can map keyboard shortcuts to it.
spronkthe 660s has a different driver to the hd58x, probably higher quality materials etc, i'd have to A/B them i don't expect the $150 dollar hd58x to beat the hd660s but at the same time as sound is all perspective you could A/B them and find you like the hd58x more than the hd660s even if the hd660s had better, bass resolution or smoother highs or wider soundstage / better imaging.
even i have found that sometimes more resolving can be actually worse, as it reveals negatives in audio, i've listened to songs on my hd650 and heard chairs creaking and people coughing that isn't meant to be part of the music just because they are that resolving.
i bought the hd58x because i heard they used a similar driver to the hd660s and didn't want to fork out for hd660s but i might if these don't satisfy
alvargI’ll A/B the 58X and 660S and let you know when I get my pair. The 58X isn’t beating the 660S in stock form I know that 100%. But modded these are supposed to be really close to the 660S.
RayFGenerally, but they make some bad stuff and some great stuff. Similar to Audio Technica, they make some great stuff and some absolutely horrendous stuff.
ChiropractorX1S and CTH don't compare at all. The X1S is a DAC that just so happens to have a weak headphone Amp. The CTH is a just a headphone Amp meaning you would still need a DAC. Unless you bought the CTH SDAC combo.
