I just got my headset but I I have a few questions if anyone knows. -is there no mic mute button? -device is not showing up as a playback or recording device in Windows. If I open the audio manager that is part of my motherboard software (Realtek HD Audio) I can test the headphones and they work but there is no way to test the mic or set either as my default device in Windows. I assume this is happening because it's not a USB device but not sure because I have been using USB devices for so long. Anyone have any info on this? -lastly, the sound in the headphones is pretty good but even with the volume to 100% it seems sort of quiet. Is there something I'm missing to increase the volume?

cproatxmic is probably muted when the mic is flipped all the way up. volume knob is on the ear piece.

cproatxThe mic is muted when it's flipped up; check if that's the problem. The fact that it isn't a USB device shouldn't be an issue; most motherboards have analog mic inputs so make sure to have it set there. Also make that your case has all its inputs properly wired to the motherboard. If your case doesn't have the mic lead inserted into the motherboard audio header, that mic input in the case won't work (for a desktop anyway; laptops shouldn't have to deal with this).
As for the low volume, that may be the PC lacking the power to drive the headphones; that's why some of us like to use amps. Anyway, before you go out and buy one though, make sure that you have your PC volume high enough and then set the volume on the headset itself. The headset will only go as loud as you set the PC's audio itself.

silverthornneThe headset is working so the ports appear to be working. However, it's not showing up as an audio or recording device in Windows so I have no option to test the mic or headphones or set them as the default device. By utilizing my MSI audio software I was able to tinker with some environment/EQ settings that have increased the volume so I guess it's acting as an amplifier but not sure that is the most ideal method to achieve that result. There is a speaker test in that software that I can test the headphones but there is no mic test.

cproatxThe way you know that the mic is working is that you right click on the little speaker icon on notification area in the right corner of the taskbar, click "Recording Devices," and that opens up the "Recording" tab of the "Sound" dialog (or if you already have the Sound dialog open, just click on the Recording tab).
If the microphone is working, you will see a little bar display getting filled as it detects sound. Flip that mic open, set it as default device, and check if the status bar is displaying any activity. Oh, and make sure that it is not a "Disabled Device."

silverthornneYes I know. That is what I'm trying to explain. When I go there..the only device listed is my other headset. This headset is not listed as a recording device in Windows. It's not listed as a playback device, either. That's what I don't understand. It is working (at least the headphones are) so I know the headset is functional. I can also see it in my MSI Realtek audio software (which detects it when I plug it in) but it has no option to test the mic in that software. The only difference that I can see between this headset and my Corsair headset is that the Corsair headset is a USB device and windows detects it when I plug it in.

cproatxOh, I failed to explain that the headset will never be listed in Windows with a name as the USB headset is. It's not offering a digital signature to Windows, so Windows doesn't know that there is a headset or a microphone or speakers or any other kind of analog audio device plugged in; it just knows that something that can accept an audio signal is plugged in. Some chipsets are smart enough to automatically route audio output and input to such devices if they are plugged in. Other chipsets will require manual nudging. What Windows will list is the port itself.
Also, stupid question, but are you plugging in both the mic and the headphone cables?

silverthornneYes, I'm plugging both in and my MSI software detects each one when I do. If Windows doesn't list it how am I supposed to select the device to configure/test it? I'm so used to USB device that just auto populate I have never had to deal with a device like this. I guess I should check my device manager and see if it shows up there but I'm not at my computer atm.

cproatx Well, Windows will list the port itself. You may get something that says "Speakers (or Line Out, depending on your motherboard) High Definition Audio Device [Status]" for the output and something that says "Microphone (or Line In) High Definition Audio Device [Status]" for the microphone. In this case, the actual device is the motherboard audio chipset (the one that says "High Definition Audio Device" in my case) and not the PC37X headphones. Going to Device Manager won't help you much because again, the device is the motherboard chipset, which is already listed there. You will not find the PC37X in the Device Manager.

Note that for the microphone, I am selecting "Microphone" from the Recording tab in the Sound dialog. I clicked on Properties to show you that this particular controls the 3.5mm jack in my PC's front panel.

For the headphones, I am selecting "Speakers" from the Playback tab of the Sound dialog. I clicked on Properties to show you that this particular entry controls the outputs located in the rear and the front panel of my PC.

silverthornneYeah, that's what I would expect to see but I see none of that listed. I only have my Corsair headset listed. No Speakers or Microphone. That being said I think I might know what the issue is. Will have to check later. Regardless, thanks for the reply and all the info.

NevinWeekendWould you happen to have the 3.5mm jacks disabled? Right click within Sound dialog window and enable "Show Disabled Devices."

silverthornneOK, I figured out the issue. If at some point you disabled any devices in that window it hides them from view. I thought that plugging in a new device would reset that but apparently not. It's also not obvious just looking at the window but if you right click anywhere in the window and select "show disabled devices" they all reappeared for me. That explains why they were working but I couldn't see the device. Hope that helps you out as well Nevin.

cproatx@silverthornne & @cproatx , I don't think anything being disabled is the issue unfortunately. Here is what my recording devices look like:

NevinWeekendAfter further troubleshooting, including trying it on other computers, I came to the conclusion the microphone was likely DOA. Contacted Massdrop and they sent a replacement out no problem. Excellent customer support, thanks! :)
