Specter0890Good question - I asked the thing, and the response was that it's done to add strength to the blade by laminating a harder higher-carbon steel with a slightly softer, lower-carbon steel. This has a similar effect to many traditional Japanese blades that are differentially-hardened so they have harder edges and softer spines (with a visible 'hamon' line between the austenitic and martensitic portions.) Fallkniven does this on their survival knives as well, but with 420J instead of SUS410.
