I'm seeing this drop getting close to the 500 units available, and still I'm not doing anything. I feel like this knife is slipping through my fingers. I'm not sure if I'll regret it or not, but somehow I can't make myself drop $120 on a knife that would be used twice a month to cut plastic tie-outs and recycled cardbox. And especially because I already have a $107 G10 Dragonfly and a darn good $20 Ka-Bar Dozier to do the job. Also, I have an $80 Boker Plus S35VN with carbon fiber scales (3' blade, 2.2 oz) in the mail coming to me. I'm also split because I don't own a Delica, and everyone says it's the best, but honestly, the AUS 8A in my Ka-Bar Dozier is just fine, and the 8Cr13MoV in my Kershaw from Walmart is pretty good too. I have spent $$$ on Sydercos, before, including the awesome limited run PM2 OD Green from JB Outman (my favorite knife), but really can't make myself spend $120 on a knife that looks like $20, even if it performs like an $80 knife. Does anyone feel the same? I'm not dishing Spydies, they're awesome, and I usually make passionate decisions, then try to justufy them rationally, but I just can't even get to the passion on this when there are a few Spydies that have been discontinued, and are offered at a steal at some sites (no disclosure, as I'm still eyeing them at this point). Thanks for reading. Comments please; I just hope I don't change my mind before the 500 counter hits. Aloha from Kauai, Hawaii 🍹🐋🌊

LeleoIts for the Spyderco collector. I already have a delica that I never use and I'm buying this one. Its cool, its high quality, and if you decide you don't like it, you can sell it later on ebay etc for $200+ Not that I would encourage such behavior.

Din76I prefer a larger knife, even as a practical edc. The Delica is pretty practical in that its light and compact enough to be easily carried, but large enough (blade at least) to get some work done. But this version of the Delica is not really about practicality. Most people who would consider buying it already have several, if not dozens of other more practical knives in the same general category. This version of the Delica is mainly a collector's item, but not just a collector's item--it has a cool look and is unique in that Spyderco has never had a knife with Supergold 2 steel, and SG2 is reputedly pretty darn great.

Din76" Not that I would encourage such behavior."
Of course not, perish the thought - neither would I!
Though it would make giving this knife a try more attractive ... And, in the end, you (or I) would still be making a Spyderco collector very happy!

LeleoI have a solution to this problem. I'm planning to buy another Delica with titanium scales and a damascus blade for $181, then swap the blades and lock so I'll end up with SG steel, titanium scales, and a gold lock on one knife that I'll use as my EDC to replace/upgrade the Delica 4 I recently lost. I figure that'll look like a $200 knife (and be possibly one of a kind!), and then I'll use the regular FRN scales with the Damascus blade which should look like a $100-ish knife, so the pair should look like they're worth about what I paid for them.
It's good to have your perceived cost in line with your actual costs. This makes sense right?

Din76If it's too small get the endura. IMO Delica is near perfect edc

XymnslotI like the way you think. Some fancier scales for the SG2 Delica, then trade the plain scales over from the donor Delica 😄

BlastedBillyDelica isn’t too tiny, tho a bit small for heavy cutting materials. The Endura design just doesn’t do it for me aesthetically.

Din76Exactly. You could buy 2 (like many did) sell one for $240 and get yours for free.

SpockI stopped worrying as soon as I wrote that. I realized this knife is more a collector's item. I only have about a dozen knives, some expensive, but I use every single one of them. If I really want a Delica, I'll get the regular version. The cool thing about this drop, in my view, is that Massdrop did a collaboration with Spyderco. While I didn't care for this knife, I'm really curious what may come in future collaborations. Can you imagine a PM2 collaboration? We'll be stabbing each other to get our hands in one of them!
