I'm considering joining this drop, but have a question for the group. Another popular knife site (that I've used before) has the VG10 version of this knife on sale for $78 at the moment.
Is the SG2 steel really worth the $50 premium over the VG10?
Thanks for any input anyone might have on this!
Edit, for clarity, either knife will see significant amount of daily usage. My knives will never live in display cases.

JeremyPOk, since I had no replies, and this drop has ended (for now), I went ahead and decided for myself (after a lot of reading on other forums).
So, for anyone interested... instead of getting this SG-2 knife or the similarly hard ZDP-189 version, which would both require DIAMOND sharpeners to touch up, I picked up a standard VG-10 Endura, a Spyderco SharpMaker AND a set of ultra-fine stones to go with the medium and fine stones it comes with, all for only $20 more than this knife is alone. And I'll be able to use the SharpMaker on my other existing knives as well, whereas a diamond stone probably would be too abrasive for them.
As an added bonus, I won't have to wait an extra long time to get any of it, as the package will arrive TODAY. Woo-hoo! Maybe someday my addiction will warrant the addition of a display case and I will be OK with investing in "collector's" knives, but I'm not there yet. ;)

JeremyPGood for you. Enjoy your VG-10. They are great knives but also a dime a dozen. The appeal for this drop was the limited quantities in a steel that spyderco doesn't typically use. For a user knife the VG-10 is probably the best choice. I have a serrated VG-10 already and may actually buy another plain edge. I'm in the minority and prefer knives with handles that are not black.

JeremyPI can't fault your logic, but I still think you're going to be a tiny bit jealou when people start posting pictures of their SG2s with the gold accented locks. ;)

XymnslotLOL. You may be right, I suppose, but at the moment I am completely happy with my decision, and have not looked back at all - gold lock bar be damned. The Endura is a beautiful and awesome knife though, and one of its first uses for me was to cut my $50+ new york strip steak at Ruth's Chris steakhouse, rather than using the hacksaw of a knife they provide you with.
Honestly, at this point, I'd rather buy my dad a new knife (thinking Paramilitary 2) than add a 2nd Endura to my own collection.
And, @Brewhaus, I know exactly what you mean about the VG-10 version being "a dime a dozen," but at ~$75 it's more like $900 a dozen. Sorry, had to do the math - point is: this is no Walmart $20 Chinese made cheap-o. Honestly, VG-10 is an excellent steel! I have no complaints about it, and absolutely no buyers remorse that it doesn't have "SUPERGOLD2/SUS410" stamped on the blade. I'm just happy to have an Endura in my pocket at all.
To each their own... enjoy your fancy gold lock bars.

JeremyPI completely agree. For a user, VG-10 is the way to go. Like I said I have one already and love it. I bought the SG2s to collect and hand down. I'm even planning on putting Santa Fe Stoneworks scales on these. So needless to say they will never be carried. More of an investment than a tool for me.

BrewhausI totally understand, and am definitely not saying anyone is wrong to do so (sorry if it seemed that way). I don't think you can actually go wrong buying a Spyderco, especially an Endura.

JeremyPYou made the right choice going w/ the VG-10 version, if indeed, as you said, the knife will see (or is now seeing, perhaps?) "significant daily use".
This MD Endura is what is called a "sprint run", meaning that the knife maker takes an existing design and tweaks it somehow--it can be as simple as different colored handle scales; it might be as unique as completely different materials for every important piece of the knife. For an example, below is a pic of the standard and sprint run versions of ZT's new 0393. The standard version has a blue Ti frame, CPM 20CV blade steel, and will be produced indefinitely. The sprint run has a bronze Ti frame, a CPM S35VN blade, and was limited to...1500 units? I think that's what they said. Anyway, ZT will not make a 0393 with those exact features ever again (the pocket clips and pivot screws on both of them were upgrades I added myself; I'm awaiting the arrival of a copper clip from Hinderer Knives to match the screw).
One odd thing about this ZT sprint run was that it was actually cheaper than the standard version by about $20, due, I'm sure, to the blade being made from less expensive steel. Normally, sprint runs are more expensive, or at least no less expensive than their standard model counterparts.
And that, finally, brings ment my point: you probably wouldn't want to spend extra $ for a sprint run if it was destined to be a heavily used knife. I suppose some ppl might because the want a better blade steel or something, but modern knife blade steel is good enough that even one considered "mid-tier" like VG-10 is these days is probably plenty good enough for most activities of most people. I'm sure there are exceptions, but in general, thats the case.
So good move saving the $ and getting the standard Endura--how are you liking it? I myself have an order in for one SG2 Delica and one Endura; I'm going to grab at least one more of each because I've lined up buyers for the first ones already (Spyderco sprint runs are highly collectable), and they're going to pay more than the MD price. I told them they could still sign up for MD and get them directly when they dropped the resr of the 1k total being made, but the buyers are older folks with a little $, and are willing to spend more to not have to deal with buying something off the Internet.

HatuletohWill ZT honor their blade replacement policy for sprint runs though? Don’t think they do, probably better off getting the standard from a warranty perspective. And anodizing is pretty easy if you want a specific color. Attached is my own bright bluish green color on the standard 0393. Just something to conside.

Dhill21Very nice. The change is subtle, but that color is much snappier than the standard blue, which I like on its own. But yours looks even better, no question. Being a relatively new knife fanatic, I've yet to try anodizing, but I've been imagining how good a cpl plain, stonewashed Ti-frame Kizers I have would look with some color. I have started to read up on the process, so I'm sure I'll be playing with batteries and vinegar at some point soon.
I don't know ZTs policy for replacement blades on a sprint run, but youre probably right that they don't replace them, at least not with the same blade steel, since replacement is always contingent upon availability, sprint run or otherwise, and obviously they wouldn't have a lot of sprint run blades lying about. But that brings up an interesting thought: would ZT replace my sprint run blade with the standard blade, I wonder? That would be great. Hmmm...
Even with full warranty polices, etc., I wouldn't suggest to anyone that they buy the sprint run over the standard model with the CPM 20CV blade. I think that's totally worth an extra $20; it still would be even if the bronze looked better, which is does not. Plus the black on the blade of the standard model...this was a weird sprint run. Inferior in every important way. But I just bought it to collect, and because I truly love the 0393 design. It's kind of my Platonic ideal of a production flipper knife.
Apparently my pics didn't load though. Have to fix that...

HatuletohI love the design as well, so much I got a 0392 added to the collection. The sprint Run still looks pretty good once you add the extras to it.

JeremyPYou do you. Make your decisions with sound reasoning and hopefully never look back and regret those choices. 👍👍two thumbs up on being your own person. I personally really wanted a knife with sg2 steel and with this I know what I'm getting. The price, to me, is very reasonable and I can deal with the wait time. The delay sucks but it was almost expected. Anyways I'm always glad to hear when someone is enjoying a blade purchase so keep carving up steaks and enjoying
